Full job description

USC’s School of Cinematic Arts is seeking a Post-Production Support Specialist to help maintain post-production technology in the school’s facilities. The School of Cinematic Arts is the premier school for the study of cinematic arts and works on the cutting edge of technology in all aspects of media production.

The Post-Production Support Specialist is a member of the Digital Media & Technology group responsible for end-user support and maintenance of computers, software, and audio-visual equipment used in the school’s instructional spaces.The ideal candidate will be an expert in post-production hardware and software including Avid Media Composer, NEXIS, Pro Tools, and DaVinci Resolve. They will have hands-on experience supporting end-users. The candidate should possess excellent technical troubleshooting and customer service skills and be adept at supporting both Mac and Windows computers. The role requires a strong working knowledge of post-production workflow. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Supporting Avid Media Composer installation, usage, and workflow

  • Managing of Avid NEXIS storage

  • Workstation configuration, maintenance, and wiring

  • Windows and MacOS systems administration

  • Supporting handoff of picture to post-production sound and color

  • Color Correction workflow including monitor calibration and support of color tools in Media Composer & Resolve

  • DCP creation, validation, and cinema server ingestion

  • Creating procedures and documentation

  • Providing technical training and support for students, faculty, and staff

  • Monitoring and responding to help desk ticketing system

  • Additional knowledge in these areas is a plus:

  • Sync, timecode, and multicam

  • Atmos and closed caption support

  • Emerging pre-vis and production technologies such as the virtual production tools in Unreal Engine

  • Generative AI tools in previz and post-production

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree, or combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education

3 years of experience in Post-Production Editorial

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in film production, information technology, entertainment technology, or media-related field

5-10 years of experience directly supporting Post-Production Editorial

The hourly rate range for this position is $38.93 - $43.34. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state, and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.
