Description: POSITION PURPOSE

  • The Director of Facilities and Engineering Reports to the VP Support Services & Capital Projects, and is responsible for providing administrative oversight to Facilities and Engineering Division for Ann Arbor, Livingston, and Chelsea hospitals.

  • They are responsible for the areas composed of Environment of Care Safety and Regulatory Compliance, Mechanical/Electrical/Plumbing system divisions, Engineering/Plant Operations, Building Services, Clinical Engineering (liaison and customer leadership only).

  • The Director of Facilities for Chelsea and Livingston reports to this position. Assure assigned areas are managed in accordance with SJMHS goals and policies. Oversee administration of operating budget and directs corrective actions in response to significant budget variances. Approves and oversees purchase of products and equipment, as well as equipment maintenance contracts, for subordinate departments. Assures alignment between Facilities operations and development are consistent with strategic goals and objectives.

  • Approximately 7 to 10 direct reporting managers serving Ann Arbor, and a large FTE compliment roll-up within Trinity Ann Arobr of various technical disciplines. Ann Arbor Building technicians report directly to this position as well. This position provides industry-leading guidance on the planning, design and construction of capital projects in concert with Planning and Construction Services division leadership, respectively.

MINIUMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, with a concentration in Business Administration.

  • Knowledge of engineering practices and principles in healthcare settings, strong background in healthcare settings, institutional maintenance principles, biomedical engineering management practices, design and construction principles, basic accounting and budgeting.

  • Equivalency in industry leadership is considered in lieu of formal degreed individual (10 years in leadership minimum).

  • Experience: Approximately ten years progressively more responsible leadership experience in health care facilities and capital project fields, thorough knowledge of applicable codes and regulations of accrediting and governmental bodies.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Responsible for ensuring Ann Arbor and associated facilities are maintained in a safe, efficient, orderly and otherwise proper operating condition.

  • Responsible for the direct supervision of Chelsea and Livingston facilities director related to their leadership development and performance

  • Formulates and approves short and long-term goals, objectives, plans and budgets for all Facilities and Engineering functions and activities. In so doing, works with managers to develop fiscal year goals, objectives and budgets. Upon approval, oversees implementation of and monitors adherence to same, initiating corrective action as necessary.

  • Ensure associated facilities are in compliance with all federal, state and local safety, Environment of Care issues, pollution control and environmental protection legislation and compliance requirements, safety and quality improvements, as well as numerous related reports as required by authorities having jurisdiction and prepared by subordinate supervisors and managers.

  • Oversees, updates revisions and implementation of Trinity Health site and facilities master plan in concert with Planning & Design leadership.

  • Provides leadership for plant-related capital construction projects.

  • Conducts complex and detailed cost/benefit studies and, based on analyses, recommends improvements in Trinity Health facilities, including construction or renovation of structures, and purchase of new equipment based on personal inspection of departments and budgets.

  • Regularly participates in development of Trinity Health-wide plans, goals, and objectives as a member of the management team assembly and various leadership committees.

  • Responsible for developing, securing approval of and implementing, through managers, policies and procedures related to:

  • Plant-related construction, including design and construction of new and or renovated areas;

  • Operating heating, cooling and other energy generation equipment in order to assure facilities are able to perform functions without impairment;

  • Maintaining energy management systems across SJMHS at optimal cost and service quality levels.

  • Regulatory and compliance for EOC and other authorities having jurisdiction.

  • Negotiates with vendors and awards large equipment maintenance contracts, large supply orders, major equipment purchases and the like.

  • Reviews requests for and approves purchases of Facilities and Engineering’s major operational items.

  • Oversees preparation of various records and reports and regularly evaluates progress toward goals and objectives.

  • Represents Trinity Health to outside government or accreditation agencies on Facilities and Engineering/EOC and compliance matters.
