Extractor/Wash Technician
Position type: Temporary
Pay: $18 per hour
Schedule: First shift; start time varies between 6:00 and 8:00 a.m. Shifts are 10 hours.
Location : Temperance, VA
Position summary
Work in a sterile environment to process prepared materials and support the extraction and handling of horseshoe crab blood for laboratory use. Follow applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), documentation requirements, and company policies.
Key responsibilities

Inspect horseshoe crabs for injuries or unresponsiveness before extraction.

Extract blood from racked crabs using a 12-gauge needle, collect it in bottles, and deliver it to the laboratory.

Add prepared washing solution to containers, agitate the material, and dispense it into plastic centrifuge tubes.

Centrifuge material to separate the desired material from the washing solution.

Measure the desired material using tube markings, add the appropriate amount of sterile water, and agitate the tubes.

Assemble transfer-pump equipment and prepare and dispense saline solution into 500 mL bottles.

Verify balance accuracy, prepare N-ethylmaleimide (NEM) solution, and dispense it into 500 mL bottles.

Complete required documentation in accordance with company policy, cGMP, and FDA requirements.

Clean walls, floors, tables, and other areas within the tent as part of daily housekeeping.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Entry-level; no prior experience required.

No certification or licensure required.
Physical requirements
The role requires standing and walking, repetitive hand use, and a full range of motion in the arms and upper body. Employees must have close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
