Full job description
JOB REQUIREMENTS: As an Adapted Recreation Coach at the Y, you'll help adults with diverse abilities discover the joy of movement, teamwork, and success through inclusive, skill-building programs. This role is about encouragement, connection, and celebrating every winbig or small. What You'll Do: Assist and coach in our Adapted Recreation programs in alignment with the YMCA's "everyone is a winner" philosophy. Support participants of all abilities in developing sports skills, building confidence, and having fun. Promote good sportsmanship, positive interaction, and a safe, inclusive environment. Build meaningful connections with participants, caregivers, and volunteers. Communicate openly and supportively with the Adapted Recreation Director. Foster community inclusion and integration wherever possible. ***** OTHER EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: What We're Looking For: We welcome a variety of backgrounds and will consider comparable training and reasonable accommodations. Experience & Skills: A caring, patient, and respectful individual with an interest in adapted sports and recreation. Experience working with individuals with disabilities is strongly preferred. Past coaching or instructional experience is a plus. Understanding or willingness to learn YMCA philosophy and inclusive coaching methods. Ability to build trust and rapport with participants and their families. Professional Skills: Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills. Comfortable problem-solving, staying organized, and working independently. Positive, team-oriented attitude with a desire to learn and grow.
