The Opportunity: The Maintenance Manager at the Mahrt paper mill in Cottonton, AL is responsible for the overall safety, environmental, quality, productivity and cost management of the maintenance department. The Maintenance Manager is also responsible for driving continuous improvement of mill operations to enable efficient, high-quality production of customer products. Key areas of responsibility include KPI monitoring & management, management and adherence to the Work Management Process, management of plant outages, maintenance cost analysis & improvement plans, 5-year major maintenance & capital planning, and overall maintenance and reliability improvement plans.

Major Job Responsibilities:

Business Excellence

• Create Maintenance Department safety goals and plans to ensure a safe work environment

• Support and drive accident prevention and environmental excellence

• Participate in and promote continuous improvement

• Responsible for keeping maintenance personnel abreast of advancing technology in diagnostic techniques, repair procedures and preventative measures to assure optimum performance at minimum cost

• Provide strategic leadership on maintenance operations to ensure maximum production

• Provide leadership and coaching regarding all planning, scheduling and execution of routine and outage maintenance work

• Provide leadership and support to drive development of detailed asset strategies for improved asset reliability.

• Develop and implement short-term and long-term maintenance strategies to enable operating efficiency in alignment with Smurfit Westrock\u2019s values

• Ensure adherence to the established work management process

• Create an effective Plant Maintenance Program using industry best practices to maximize equipment reliability and uptime

• Ensure Root Cause Failure Analysis and troubleshooting techniques are used to solve repetitive equipment problems

• Manage and analyze maintenance department KPIs to assess operating efficiency and identify opportunities to drive performance excellence

• Monitor and communicate departmental performance in Safety, Environmental, Reliability, and Cost effectiveness

• Provide guidance in the development of the maintenance business plan and forecasts

• Lead maintenance staff to exceed industry standards and set new industry uptime and reliability standards

• Serve as a member of the Plant Leadership Team to align on Plant goals and standards and collaborate on organizational effectiveness

• Negotiate using win-win strategies on behalf of Smurfit Westrock with the Labor Union representatives on contract issues

People and Culture

• Ensure a safe work environment and adherence to all corporate, state and federal safety, health and environmental policies, procedures and regulations by all maintenance staff

• Foster a culture of care that promotes active participation and buy-in for safety and maintenance reliability from craftsmen

• Ensure maintenance staff is adequately trained and motivated to achieve departmental objectives in a safe, timely, and cost-effective manner

• Occasionally stands or walks for more than 6 hours at a time

• Noisy industrial work environment; maintain strict adherence to safety rules and regulations

What you need to succeed:

• Required: 10 - 15 years of experience in industrial maintenance

• Preferred: 5 + years of experience in maintenance management

• Required: 2-year technical degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering

• Preferred: Bachelor\u2019s Degree in Electrical and/or Mechanical Engineering
