Full job description

The Department of Health, Behavior & Society at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health is seeking a Field Supervisor.

The Field Supervisor oversees the day-to-day activities of a single complex or multiple research projects and makes independent decisions that impact the conduct of the research. Assists in goal setting and creating implementation plans. Contributes to budget formulation, communications, and data systems. The incumbent will support the PI and SHOUT study team by ensuring the efficient logistical implementation of study activities and by providing administrative support for all related issues.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist Principal Investigator or more senior research staff to ensure operational feasibility of proposed protocol/study design.

  • Develop standard operating procedures and data collection forms based on understanding of underlying study design.

  • Develop or oversee design and implementation of study procedures and tools for data collection, e.g. participant interviews, administer questionnaires; background research, laboratory processing, etc.

  • Ensure compliance with all protocols, procedures, and applicable regulations.

  • Participate in developing study budget.

  • Set up data collection system and ensure validity of study data.

  • Organize and quality control study data.

  • Recommend and implement changes to protocol operations based on results and goals.

  • Conduct literature searches to provide background information.

  • Abstract and index information based on knowledge of subject matter.

  • Other duties as assigned.

In addition to the duties described above

  • Build rapport with community members, including people who use drugs, through outreach.

  • Ensure the SHOUT study complies with all protocols, procedures, and applicable regulations during data collection.

  • Quality control quantitative SHOUT study data when in the field.

  • Using relevant experience, adapt and recommend changes to study protocols when applicable.

  • On call for some weekend shifts each month.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field.

  • Three years of related experience.

  • Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience conducting community research; valid driver’s license and ability/willingness to drive large vehicles.
