What You'll Be Doing

Job Scope: The Survey Technician is generally responsible for assisting with field surveys, laser scanning, and construction staking. This work will be performed under the supervision of a professional land surveyor. Short-term travel and/or weekend work will be required.

Primary responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • Completing project safely and within required accuracy and timeframe.

  • Coordinating with survey team and design team to ensure survey scope is clear and deliverable expectations are met.

  • Assist in developing a plan of action for assigned projects.

  • Adhering to existing standards of practice for surveying.

  • Operate assigned field equipment in the accomplishment of fieldwork.

  • Accurately measure angles, distances and other information in conformance with regulations and company standards.

  • Assist in conducting surveys to establish legal boundaries for properties, based on legal deeds and titles.

  • Assist in establishing construction control points for use in the installation of equipment and materials.

  • Searching legal records, survey records, and land titles to obtain information about property boundaries in areas to be surveyed.

  • React to change productively and handle other essential tasks as assigned.

  • Maintain flexibility to meet project schedule needs based on workload of the Survey Team.

  • Assist in field work for surveying and laser scanning activities.

Ideal Background

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent is required.

Experience: Requires up to 2 years of relevant experience in industrial plant environment.

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple measurements.

  • Ability to learn the use of field instruments such as robotic total stations, data collectors, GPS, and laser scanners.

  • Familiarity with laser scanning registration software or equivalent a plus.

  • Familiarity in the use of AutoCAD and Carlson Software or equivalent a plus.

  • Familiarity in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.

  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • Familiarity with surveying and/or civil/structural engineering terminology is a plus.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit, stand or walk for long periods of time.

  • Ability to lift and carry in excess of 25 lbs.

  • Ability to use the entire body, more often hands and arms, in handling, positioning, and moving equipment.

  • Ability to perform work outdoors in hot or cold climates, which may also involve walking through difficult terrain or in industrial facilities

  • Comfortable working at heights off scaffold, platforms or manlifts.

  • Ability to drive – possesses a valid driver’s license
