The Anoka Metro Regional Treatment Center has new and exciting opportunities for Facility Security Counselor to join our team! As a Security Counselor you provide a safe environment for individuals in a locked setting. Promote staff and patient safety through continuously monitoring and evaluating the environment of care throughout the facility by rounding (gathering information through general observation, direct patient contact, and through employee interactions in a structured way that is proactive and not reactive; handling problems before they occur; reinforcing positive behaviors and providing real time education to negative behaviors; and providing leadership with real time/timely feedback) on patient units and throughout the hospital, responding to and helping de-escalate challenging patient interactions and providing training and skill development for staff. Provide support to staff and patients experiencing when high stress situations occur, focusing on de-escalation, negotiation and interventions that promote safety of patients and staff through trauma informed, motivational interviewing, and person centered approaches.

Job Duties:

  • Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment using a person-centered approach that facilitates patient participation and independence while protecting patient rights and complying with all safety and health regulations.

  • Conduct rounds within the hospital to gather information through general observation, direct patient contact, and employee interactions in a structured and proactive manner.

  • Manage crisis situations using the least restrictive/intrusive methods, provide emergency interventions, and support patients as necessary during interventions.

  • Implement hospital safety and security policies, along with providing general patient supervision, to ensure the continued health and safety of patients, staff, and the public.

  • Contribute to the quality of overall facility operations and patient services through diligence in objectively documenting, accurately recording, and appropriately communicating information.

  • Maintain skills and physical requirements in order to respond to emergency situations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Demonstrated writing skills including writing legible notes.

  • Basic computer skills.

  • Clear verbal communication skills for communications over radio and with patients.

  • Ability to read and write English sufficient to understand and follow directions and to maintain records and documentation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • An associate's degree or higher in a related field of study, such as Law Enforcement, Criminal Justice, Psychology, Sociology or other related fields.

  • Experience working in a secured facility monitoring and counseling a similar client and patient population as the Anoka Metro Regional Treatment Center.
