Full job description

The Shift Coordinator provides leadership and operational support for a designated unit or the overnight shift, ensuring compliance with organizational policies, licensing requirements, and established protocols. This role helps maintain a safe, respectful, and therapeutic environment for youth while supporting staff performance, program operations, and quality service delivery.

The Shift Coordinator works closely with nursing staff and program leadership to ensure appropriate staffing, oversee admissions and discharges, support training initiatives, and respond effectively to crises and emergency situations.

Qualifications

Required

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • Minimum age of 21 years

  • At least two years of experience working with children and adolescents in a mental/behavioral health setting or professional caregiving role

  • Basic computer proficiency

  • CPR and First Aid Certification

  • Ability to complete 12 hours of Person-Centered Thinking training prior to or within 90 days of hire

Preferred

  • Associate's Degree (60+ college credits) or Bachelor's Degree in a Mental Health, Human Services, or related field

  • Valid driver's license

Essential Responsibilities

  • Assist with leadership responsibilities for a designated unit or overnight shift.

  • Ensure daily operations comply with all organizational policies, procedures, licensing requirements, and staffing mandates.

  • Partner with nursing and program leadership to maintain appropriate staffing levels and required staff-to-client ratios.

  • Support staff supervision and address operational concerns as they arise.

  • Assist in training and mentoring unit and overnight staff

  • Ensure assigned staff maintain required clearances, certifications, and annual training requirements.

  • Support compliance with organizational, programmatic, and licensing standards.

  • Complete a minimum of 40 annual training hours and participate in ongoing professional development.

  • Oversee admissions and discharges, ensuring all documentation is completed accurately and timely.

  • Help create a welcoming and supportive environment for youth entering the program.

  • Ensure youth receive appropriate support throughout their stay and transition from the program.

  • Assist with ordering and maintaining program supplies.

  • Monitor and review unit and shift documentation for accuracy and completeness.

  • Support quality assurance efforts and ensure records meet organizational standards.

  • Respond calmly and effectively to client crises and behavioral escalations.

  • Assist in search efforts during elopement situations.

  • Maintain knowledge of emergency response procedures, including fire safety, medical emergencies, evacuations, and disaster plans.

  • Ensure a safe, secure environment by remaining alert and attentive throughout the shift.

  • Communicate professionally and effectively with clients, families, coworkers, clinical teams, and leadership.

  • Report concerns, incidents, and accomplishments promptly to program leadership.
