Full job description
Position Summary:
The SUNY Cortland Sociology/Anthropology Department is accepting applications for a two-year (12-month) postdoctoral fellowship beginning in Fall 2027. This position is offered as part of the Promoting Recruitment, Opportunity, Diversity, Inclusion and Growth Plus (PRODiG+) (https://www.suny.edu/prodig-plus/fellowship) postdoctoral Program. PRODiG+ is designed with two primary goals: (1) increasing the number and share of excellent diverse faculty committed to advancing the ideals of diversity, equity, and inclusion; and (2) strengthening the pipeline for retention and support of these candidates. Additional information on the PRODiG+ Fellowship can be found at https://www.suny.edu/prodig-plus/fellowship/. This Fellowship is for a 12-month appointment for two years (AY27-AY29).
We seek a social scientist with expertise in Indigenous studies and research methods. Preference will be given to applicants with expertise in environmental sociology. The successful candidate will demonstrate evidence of excellence in teaching and be able to teach a social science methods survey course and courses related to environmental sociology or environmental justice from an Indigenous or decolonial perspective. Geographic area of specialization is open. Research expertise that complements rather than duplicates that of current faculty preferred.
Throughout the fellowship, the successful candidate will receive mentoring on how to thrive as a faculty member at a comprehensive college, balancing the demands of teaching and research. The fellowship is expected to transition into a tenure-track position after two years, provided the fellow achieves performance milestones during the fellowship.
The successful candidate will become a part of our dynamic Sociology/Anthropology Department supporting nearly 300 students in one of our four undergraduate majors in sociology, criminology, anthropology, and archaeology and our innovative dual major degree in Sociology/Adolescence Education in Social Studies.
The PRODiG+ fellow will join a growing department of faculty who are dedicated teachers, productive scholars, and engaged members of the campus community.
Salary: $65,000
Major Responsibilities:

Have a PhD in Sociology or a related field from an accredited institution completed prior to start date;
-
Demonstrate personal, academic, and/or work experience engaging with diversity, equity, and inclusion and/or a commitment to facilitating and enhancing diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts in the campus community. Such experience may include, but is not limited to, an academic/scholarly track record focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion; work, volunteer/unpaid/community service; or related experience/expertise in serving underserved or vulnerable areas and/or populations.
-
The department seeks candidates whose research and teaching fields complement, without duplicating, existing strengths.

-
Current SUNY students, alumni, and/or Fellows.
