Full job description

The Department of Surgery at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for an Associate or Full Professor position in either the non-tenure clinician educator track or the tenure track. Expertise is required in the specific area of plastic surgery. Applicants must have an M.D. degree. Fellowship training in plastic surgery is preferred. They must also be certified by the American Board of Surgery.

Teaching responsibilities may include education of medical students, residents and fellows.

Clinical responsibilities may include outpatient, inpatient, and operative care of patients.

Research or scholarship responsibilities may include clinical or basic science research.

The successful candidate will have an established clinical reputation, record of academic achievement, and a commitment to mentoring junior faculty.

This position will be full-time and based primarily at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. It will include the role Chief of the Division of Plastic Surgery, with administrative responsibilities as one of 11 division chiefs in the department. Candidates for the position should embrace all parts of our tripartite mission: to be a world leader in clinical care, research and education. They should have a demonstrated record of excellence in one or more components of that mission and are expected to have a record of service and administration, outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, and a compelling vision for the department and the discipline. Rank will be commensurate with experience.

Penn Medicine’s Division of Plastic Surgery provides comprehensive care across Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and the Philadelphia region, performing more than 4,800 surgeries annually. Clinic locations include the three primary downtown hospitals well as four outlying hospitals. Our Penn Plastic Surgery team specializes in cosmetic and reconstructive surgery, as well as a comprehensive skin care program. We have well-established collaborative reconstruction programs with breast surgery, orthopedics, trauma, sarcoma and soft tissue cancers, and neurosurgery as key partners in this clinical practice. The Division is a national leader and among the world’s largest centers by clinical volume in reconstructive microsurgery. The Division maintains strong partnerships with oncology, trauma and emergency services surgery, imaging, and pathology, enabling a fully integrated care model that supports advanced surgical approaches, coordinated treatment planning, and access to clinical trials.

As Penn Medicine continues to further align our comprehensive plastic surgery program across its regional network, there is a meaningful opportunity for the Division Chief to provide leadership in the oversight of plastic surgery services to strengthen collaborative programmatic alignment at satellite locations.

The University of Pennsylvania is an equal opportunity employer. Candidates are considered for employment without regard to race, color, sex, sexual orientation, religion, creed, national origin (including shared ancestry or ethnic characteristics), citizenship status, age, disability, veteran status or any class protected under applicable federal, state, or local law.
