As a Process Engineering Intern, youll work alongside Operations and Engineering teams to improve manufacturing processes, strengthen quality consistency, and solve real-world production challenges. Youll apply your engineering background to projects that deliver measurable impact on the manufacturing floor.

What Youll Work On

Depending on your project assignment, you may:

  • Partner with the Operations team to create visual standards for quality metrics on the shop floor and refresh operating requirements.

  • Develop a measurement tool for Technology and Maintenance to check VAR furnace tilt and alignment, helping prevent misaligned melting and potential furnace damage.

  • Identify process improvement opportunities during ESR startup to improve consistency and manufacturing performance.

  • Analyze process data to identify trends, opportunities for improvement, and potential sources of variation.

  • Develop or improve standard operating procedures to support consistent execution of manufacturing processes.

  • Partner with Operations and Engineering teams to investigate process issues and develop practical solutions.

What Youll Gain

  • Hands-on experience in manufacturing process engineering within ATIs Monroe VIM and Remelt operations.

  • Practical experience with data analysis, problem solving, and investigative failure analysis.

  • Exposure to nickel melting technologies, including VIM, VAR, and ESR processes.

  • Experience developing standard operating procedures and visual standards that improve quality consistency and execution.

  • Opportunities to apply materials science principles to real-world manufacturing challenges.

  • Collaboration with both Operations and Engineering teams on projects designed to deliver measurable impact in a short period of time.

  • Potential opportunity to transition into a full-time Process Engineer position at ATI after graduation.
