Associate Technical Writer

Description

The Associate Technical Writer will support Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) editing and creating IETMs (Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals) and/or TMs (Technical Manuals) using PTC Arbortext to MIL-STD-3001 specification. This position will be onsite at our facility in Indianapolis, IN .

JOB DUTIES:

• Author, edit, and develop IETMs and/or TMs for NAVAIR equipment, to cover maintenance, operation, repair, theory of operation, troubleshooting, and Illustrated Parts Breakdown (IPB) in accordance with MIL-STD-3001 requirements.

• Author, prepare, review, revise, and develop IETMs and/or TMs for NAVAIR equipment from source data such as Logistics Product Data, Engineering Drawings, and Maintenance Plans for equipment operation and maintenance.

• Create and update NAVAIR MIL-STD-3001 XML documentation with understanding of XML tags and how to apply to text.

• Edit, proofread, and provide writing support across technical and non-technical documents.

• Evaluate documents for format, clarity, and quality based on adherence to MIL-STD-3001.

• Create narrative content using Subject Matter Expert (SME) interviews to author and validate with technical system engineers, architects, and other SMEs.

• Create initial technical publication outlines, and incrementally create, validate, update, and review document content.

Qualifications

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• Bachelor's degree and 0 years’ experience; additional years of work history accepted in lieu of a degree.

• Candidate must be a US Citizen.

• Team-oriented, self-starter, with excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Experience with Microsoft Office products and desktop publishing software.

DESIRED EXPERIENCE:

• Previous experience creating and editing NAVAIR IETMs and TMs.

• Proficient in use of PTC Arbortext or similar XML authoring software.

• Recent knowledge of and experience with Naval Air Technical Data and Engineering Service Center (NATEC) documentation standards and procedures.

• Current knowledge of and experience with Naval & Marine Corps aircraft systems.

Target salary range: $40,001 - $80,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
