Engineering Technician

Summary

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Competitive Service Positions to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Serves as a Engineering Technician at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland.

Duties

• Performs measurement, inspection, survey, monitoring, review, analysis, design, and layout.
• Prepares appropriate documentation for the calibration ,operation, maintenance, repair, and modification of mechanical and electrical systems, production equipment and tooling, other utility systems and/or facilities.
• Makes on-site visits to affected shop or plant areas to independently investigate particular items org groups of items for operating inadequacies, modifications, or adaptation to meet requirements.
• Plans and establishes overall layouts and drafts, sketches and drawings, applying and computing tolerances, dimensions, clearances, fits, roads, sizes, or other aspects as required.
• Compiles and develops work and design specifications governing performance evaluation, assembly, and delivery of special adapting devices or parts of equipment/facilities and systems.
• Performs follow-up on all phases of project and keeps supervisor and senior engineer apprised of progress and status of projects.
• Applies a practical knowledge of engineering principles in assessing specific requirements, delineating engineering interpretations and.
• Translates what is required into specifications of sufficient detail that an accurate assessment of scope of work, cost estimates, time materials, etc., can be prepared.

Qualifications

BASIC REQUIREMENT: Specialized experience including technical work in the areas such as: drafting, surveying construction estimating, physical science, mathematics, aerospace, architecture, chemicals, electrical or mechanical systems, mining, petroleum, or nuclear systems. OR Experience in a trade or craft that work required intensive knowledge of engineering principles, techniques, methods, and precedents for example trade positions with substantial developmental, test, or design responsibilities such as: a Planner and estimator who analyzed designs for production purposes or an Instrument maker or model maker who performed design or development work on devices fabricated. OR Certified by the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies, an organization sponsored by the National Society of Professional Engineers. In addition to meeting one of the basic requirements above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: GS-11: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-10 grade level in the Federal service which includes: practical experience in the construction trades and crafts and formal training to perform engineering design and cost estimates for the maintenance and repair, new construction, alterations and modifications of architectural, civil, electrical and mechanical systems and equipment within the Directorate of Public Works. GS-10: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service which includes: analyzes the subject, phase, or issues involved in each assignment to adjust or deviate from standard work methods based on situations and conditions at a field or work site. GS-09: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-08 grade level in the Federal service which includes: applying, theories, concepts, principles, and methodologies of an engineering or architectural discipline sufficient to research, analyze, interpret, and evaluate. Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
