Full job description

Responsibilities

Peraton is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to fill a role of a Data and Integration Engineer to support the CMS Fraud Prevention System (FPS) Program. The Data and Integration Engineer owns both the one-time integration effort that lands Peraton’s propriety tool, Rapid FI, inside the FPS operating environment and the ongoing FPS data pipelines that feed Rapid FI. Working with the FPS Innovation Lab team, this role supports the Rapid FI application tier inside the FPS AWS boundary and builds the ingestion, transformation, and delivery layer that pulls data from FPS to power Rapid FI's Medicaid and FDOC user experiences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish the Rapid FI data-ingestion path from FPS-authoritative sources

  • Design, build, and operate the FPS data pipelines feeding Rapid FI; for example, the FPS Medicaid fraud-detection model outputs, provider/beneficiary reference data, claims history, UCM case records, historical enforcement records, and OnePI data.

  • Wire Rapid FI into FPS identity, RBAC, audit, and security controls; produce the integration documentation (data-flow diagrams, control mappings) the Regulatory & Compliance Lead and CMS need.

  • Run pipelines on the FPS Modeling and Analytics Platform under FPS security and governance controls, and align pipeline design with the planned FTEC data-warehouse consolidation.

  • Coordinate with the Rapid FI product team on releases and operational hand-off.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 12 years with BS/BA; Minimum of 10 years with MS/MA; Minimum of 7 years with Ph.D.

  • Strong Python and/or Java development, with the other as a working competency; strong SQL.

  • Deep AWS core-services experience: VPC, EC2, IAM, KMS, S3, RDS, ECS/EKS, PrivateLink/VPC endpoints, CloudWatch.

  • Production Kubernetes / EKS experience.

  • Solid PostgreSQL experience (RDS operational data) and experience building distributed / big-data pipelines with Spark, Airflow, Kafka, or equivalent.

  • Experience wiring applications into an existing identity model (Okta SSO / RBAC) and routing audit logs to CloudWatch and Splunk.

  • Experience operating inside a customer ATO boundary or comparable regulated environment (Federal / HIPAA / equivalent).

  • US citizen (in US 3 of last 5 years); ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.

Preferred Requirements

  • Hands-on Snowflake experience: SQL, warehouses, RBAC, data shares, tasks/streams

  • Hands-on Databricks experience: Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, MLflow, notebook and job workloads.

  • Experience with GitOps (Argo CD, Helm) and IaC (Terraform); modern CI/CD practice.

  • Prior integration of a commercial product into a CMS or Federal-health-agency environment.

  • Prior experience with CMS data systems; for example, FPS, IDR, One PI, UCM, T-MSIS.

  • Medicare and/or Medicaid claims data experience.

  • Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) experience; certification preferred.

  • Terragrunt for Terraform module and multi-environment management; service meshes (Istio/Linkerd), Vault or AWS Secrets Manager, zero-trust patterns.

  • CMS security frameworks: CFACTS, CSRAP, FISMA/ATO artifact experience.

  • Experience with rules engines (ODM/Drools) or rules-based fraud-detection models; job scheduling / process automation (Airflow, Control-M).
