Description

The Thomson-Hood Veterans Center is seeking a dedicated and experienced Nurse Supervisor to coordinate the Minimum Data Set (MDS) program and oversee nursing staff within our long-term care facility. This position plays a key role in ensuring high-quality care for our veteran residents while maintaining compliance with Medicare, Medicaid, and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise nursing staff involved in the MDS process and coordinate staff schedules to ensure program coverage.

  • Serve as a preceptor for newly hired staff and provide ongoing education and training related to MDS and skilled care documentation.

  • Track Medicare beneficiary benefit periods and validate eligibility for Medicare Part A skilled services.

  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to determine skilled medical necessity for residents.

  • Review and audit MDS assessments, resident care plans, and clinical documentation for accuracy and compliance.

  • Provide training and guidance to nursing staff regarding documentation standards and skilled care requirements.

  • Coordinate with finance staff to ensure billing accuracy and alignment with diagnoses and medical documentation.

  • Communicate with CMS and managed care organizations to support authorization and continuation of benefits.

  • Maintain the Prospective Payment System (PPS) schedule for residents utilizing Medicare benefits.

  • Assist with floor nursing coverage when needed, including medication administration, treatments, and emergency response.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS:Must have two years of experience as a Registered Nurse.

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE:A bachelor's degree in nursing will substitute for one year of the required experience.
