Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) Responsibilities and Duties - Prepare operating rooms by setting up surgical instruments and equipment. - Ensure all surgical equipment is sterilized and functioning properly. - Assist surgeons during operations by passing instruments and other supplies. - Maintain a sterile environment to minimize the risk of infection. - Monitor and account for all surgical tools and supplies throughout the procedure. - Help position patients for surgery and cover them with sterile drapes. - Prepare and manage specimens taken for lab analysis during surgery. - Anticipate the needs of the surgical team and respond promptly. - Assist in the application of dressings and transfer of patients to recovery. - Perform inventory checks and restock operating room supplies as needed. ### Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) Qualifications and Skills - Previous experience in a surgical or clinical setting. - Certification from a recognized surgical technologist program. - Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities. - Strong communication and teamwork skills. - Proficiency with electronic health records and other medical software. - Bilingual abilities, particularly in Spanish, are a plus. - Advanced certifications in specialized surgical areas. - Completion of an accredited surgical technologist program. - Current certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST). - Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. - Strong understanding of surgical procedures and aseptic techniques. - Ability to remain calm and focused under pressure. - Physical stamina to stand for long periods and assist with patient transfers. - Excellent hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity. - Willingness to maintain continuing education and stay updated on best practices.
