We have an exciting opportunity for a Project Engineer at Johnston IA . As a Project Engineer, you will lead engineering activities throughout the project lifecycle, from design through execution. You will coordinate engineering, procurement, and construction efforts, implement project controls to support schedule and cost forecasting, and maintain effective change management processes. Working closely with the Project Manager, you will support contract package development, oversee contractor activities, and help ensure successful project delivery.

This is a hybrid role working in-office Tuesday–Thursday; remote Monday and Friday.

What You’ll Do:

  • Collaborate with engineers to develop project plans and designs that comply with applicable codes, RAGAGEP, and Vylor Engineering Standards.

  • Review contractor estimates, monitor spending, and support project cost control.

  • Assist in developing project schedules and coordinate activities with contractors and plant personnel to meet project milestones.

  • Oversee construction activities to ensure compliance with safety requirements and quality standards.

  • Facilitate clear communication among project teams, contractors, engineers, suppliers, and plant personnel. Ensure alignment with project objectives and owner expectations.

  • Identify and resolve technical, logistical, and operational challenges throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Review submittals, drawings, and change orders, and maintain complete project records, including closeout and as-built documentation.

  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes, regulations, permits, and local requirements.

  • Support the maintenance and continuous improvement of Vylor Engineering Standards.

Education:

  • B.S. in Mechanical, Agricultural, Construction or Chemical Engineering

What Skills You Need:

  • 5+ years of relevant experience in project development and execution depending on the type of experience and project size.

  • Travel varies by time of year and could be more than 40% during busy construction activities.

  • Strong facilitation and communication skills.

  • Strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skills with the ability to influence multiple levels of the organization; able to take a “hands-on” approach in training and execution.

  • Experience managing contractors, vendors, and external engineering resources

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs, specifications, and technical documents.

  • Working knowledge of process safety management (PSM) and management of change (MOC) principles.

  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills with the ability to evaluate technical and business impacts.

  • Knowledge of industrial construction methods, commissioning, and startup activities.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
