FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

York College, founded in 1966, is a center of academic excellence in the heart of Jamaica, Queens. One of the eleven senior colleges in The City University of New York, the College’s mission is to enrich students' lives by fostering an environment where they’ll grow into passionate and engaged learners.

York’s academic programs are housed in three schools: The School of Arts & Sciences, The School of Business and Information Systems, and The School of Health Sciences and Professional Programs. Over sixty baccalaureate programs from across a variety of disciplines, including accounting, aviation management, business, computer science, journalism, social work, teacher education, a dual BS/MS degree in Occupational Therapy, and one of the top-ranked nursing programs in New York State, provide students with opportunities to study liberal arts, sciences, and professional programs. The College also offers six graduate programs: Aviation Management, Clinical Trials Management, Pharmaceutical Science and Business, Physician Assistant, Social Work and Nursing Education.

The Department of Business and Economics at York College/CUNY invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Information Systems and Business anticipated to begin Fall 2027.

York College is located in Queens, one of the five boroughs of New York City and one of the most ethnically diverse counties in the nation. It is a senior college within The City University of New York and is situated on a 50-acre campus in the heart of the Downtown Jamaica section of the borough.

The Department of Business and Economics at York College/CUNY invites applications for Assistant Professor Position anticipated to begin Fall 2027 to teach in the Department of Business and Economics.

York College is located in Queens, one of the five boroughs of New York City and one of the most ethnically diverse counties in the nation. It is a senior college within The City University of New York and is situated on a 50-acre campus in the heart of the Downtown Jamaica section of the borough.

The individual hired for this position will teach basic and advanced courses in at least one of the following fields: Entrepreneurship, International Business, Business Analytics, Human Resource Management, Marketing, and Economics. Teaching assignments will include evenings and weekends.

The successful candidate will provide service to the College, including student advisement, participation on department and college committees, and other assignments given by the Department Chair. Teaching faculty perform committee and department assignments, including administrative, supervisory, and other functions.

The successful candidate will:

  • Demonstrate effectiveness in teaching methods appropriate for assigned courses.

  • Assist students with course advising and individual mentoring.

  • Participate in curriculum development as part of the normal workload.

  • Work collaboratively to enhance the Business and Economics department programs with an emphasis on maintaining academic relevance and alignment with marketplace needs.

  • Complete administrative tasks assigned as part of the normal workload.

  • Fulfill bargaining unit workload requirements, including equivalent administrative responsibilities.

  • Serve the College through participation in committees, professional organizations, and community engagement activities.

  • Encourage and support student involvement in student organizations, internships, and career development opportunities.

  • Maintain and develop relationships with the business community and relevant professional organizations.

QUALIFICATIONS

The successful candidate must possess:

  • A PhD or other relevant doctoral degree in Business, Entrepreneurship, Human Resource Management, Economics, or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution by the time of appointment (Fall 2027).

  • Demonstrated ability to teach effectively at the undergraduate and/or graduate level.

  • Academic preparation and teaching expertise in at least one of the following areas: Entrepreneurship, International Business, Business Analytics, Marketing, and Economics.

  • Evidence of commitment to student success through effective teaching, advising, mentoring, and support of diverse student populations.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, students, and external stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated commitment to service activities within an academic institution, professional organizations, or community settings.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate:

  • A strong record of teaching effectiveness and innovative instructional practices, including experience with technology-enhanced learning.

  • Evidence of scholarly productivity, applied research, professional recognition, or contributions to their discipline.

  • An active research agenda with potential for continued scholarly contributions.

  • Experience developing or revising curriculum to address emerging trends in business, economics, and workforce needs.

  • Expertise in emerging and interdisciplinary areas such as AI and business, analytics, digital transformation, entrepreneurship and innovation, sustainability, marketing analytics, international business, or related fields.

  • Significant professional experience or industry engagement relevant to their academic specialization.

  • Experience mentoring students from diverse backgrounds and supporting experiential learning opportunities, including internships, applied projects, and community-based initiatives.

  • Established relationships with business organizations, professional associations, industry partners, or community stakeholders.

  • Experience contributing to interdisciplinary initiatives, accreditation activities, program assessment, grant development, or other institutional initiatives.

COMPENSATION

$82,384 - $98,231 - Salary commensurate with education and experience.
