Job Description

An employer is seeking an Embedded Software Engineer in the Mason, OH area for a long term opportunity. This Embedded Software Engineer will join a 6-person engineering team supporting flight computer and flight termination system programs. The engineer will be responsible for hands-on, low-level embedded C/C++ development, including developing and integrating new drivers, BSPs, and hardware/software interfaces. A major focus will be bringing up HDLC communications, coding the driver, and working closely with VHDL/FPGA and hardware engineers to test and verify functionality within the new system. The engineer will support lab integration, developer testing, troubleshooting, and flight simulation software as programs progress through the early-to-mid stages of development. The role will also involve working with communication interfaces such as Ethernet, RS-232/422, and 1553, using electronic test equipment to troubleshoot hardware/software interactions, and supporting platforms such as Gaisler LEON3 and PolarFire SoC/RISC-V. The ideal candidate is comfortable working close to the hardware and contributing independently on a team that currently has several junior engineers. This role will be required to be on site a minimum of three days a week in Mason, OH with the ideal consultant on site 4 days a week as its a 9/80 schedule.

Skills and Requirements

4+ years of embedded software engineering experience, ideally within Defense, Aerospace, Space, Medical Device, or another highly regulated/complex hardware environment rather than commercial application development. Strong hands-on experience developing embedded software in C/C++. Must be able to work at the low-level/board level, not primarily Python, Java, or higher-level software development. Experience working with a Real-Time Operating System (RTOS) such as RTEMS, FreeRTOS, VxWorks, or Green Hills INTEGRITY. Linux-only embedded experience will not be sufficient. Experience developing low-level software, device drivers, and/or Board Support Packages (BSPs) and integrating software directly with hardware. Working knowledge of hardware, circuits, schematics, and electronic interfaces, with the ability to partner closely with FPGA/VHDL and hardware engineers during integration and troubleshooting. Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or similar technical discipline. Direct experience with RTEMS is highly preferred; FreeRTOS, VxWorks, or Green Hills INTEGRITY are also strong backgrounds. Experience with Gaisler LEON3 processors and/or PolarFire SoC / RISC-V architectures. Hands-on experience developing or integrating HDLC drivers/interfaces. Experience with flight software, flight computers, flight termination systems, launch vehicles, spacecraft, or other mission-critical embedded systems.
