Full job description

Construction ManagerAbout Durable Restoration

Durable Restoration specializes in the preservation and restoration of historic buildings and landmarks. We work on churches, government buildings, universities, museums, and some private residences—helping our clients preserve the character and craftsmanship of their buildings for generations to come.

We take pride in high-quality craftsmanship, excellent service, and doing the job right.

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Construction Manager to join our restoration team. You’ll work alongside our project management team as well as our skilled craftsmen to ensure high-quality, efficient, safe, and productive project sites.

We’re looking for someone with 2+ years of construction management experience, ideally with some experience in historic restoration. However, we recognize that historic trades are specialized, and we provide paid training to help you develop the technical and administrative skills that are unique to our work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead Historic Preservation Projects: Direct and manage day-to-day restoration and construction operations on commercial historic properties.

  • On-Site Field Management: Maintain a consistent on-site presence to coordinate specialty subcontractors and directly supervise our in-house trade crews.

  • Workforce Labor Scheduling: Assign daily tasks to internal staff, monitor self-perform work quality, and manage subcontractor sequencing to avoid site bottlenecks.

  • Safety & Compliance Enforcement: Enforce rigorous safety standards across all phases of work for all site personnel, including high-altitude tasks and historic preservation requirements.

  • Material & Delivery Management: Coordinate the arrival and staging of specialized restoration materials at the project site.

  • Daily Field Reporting: Track project milestones, manage field-issued RFIs, and resolve unexpected site bottlenecks as they arise.

  • Client Communication & Coordination: Serve as a direct point of contact for clients on day-to-day jobsite matters, providing project updates, communicating field progress and schedule changes, addressing questions or concerns, and maintaining a professional, service-oriented relationship throughout the project.

What You’ll Bring

  • 2+ years of construction management experience; historic restoration or commercial project experience preferred.

  • Dual Team Leadership: Strong interpersonal and personnel skills to successfully manage and motivate direct-hire employees alongside independent subcontractors.

  • On-Site Presence & Agility: Comfort spending full days on active construction sites, managing field operations directly in different outdoor seasons and weather conditions.

  • High-Altitude Comfort: Ability and confidence working at significant heights from ladders, manlifts, staging scaffolds, and related structures.

  • Physical Fitness: Ability to repeatedly climb access structures, stand for long periods of time, and lift or carry materials weighing up to 50 lbs.

  • Technical Aptitude: Ability to read drawings, work from existing conditions, and efficiently manage field-issued RFIs or project schedules.

  • Preservation Mindset: Deep attention to detail and respect for historic materials, craftsmanship, and specialized structures.

  • Willingness to Travel: Ability and willingness to travel as needed.

  • Pride in Craftsmanship: Most importantly, we're looking for someone who takes pride in their work, pays attention to detail, and wants to develop their skills in historic restoration.

What We Offer

  • Paid in-house and on-the-job training (administrative and technical)

  • Competitive pay

  • Year-round work

  • Paid travel time for work outside of our normal branch service area

  • Health, dental, and vision insurance

  • 401(k)

  • Quarterly bonuses for days worked out of town and Saturdays worked

  • Perfect attendance bonuses

  • Opportunities for advancement based on performance, not tenure

Additional Requirements

Employment is contingent upon successfully completing a background check and pre-employment drug screening. Random drug screening may be required during employment.

If you're a versatile field leader who can seamlessly bridge the gap between high-level project management and daily on-site superintendence—and you want to direct the specialized craft of historic restoration—we'd like to hear from you.
