Full job description

Saint-Gobain is seeking a Senior Building Science Field Specialist in the Southeast region. This is a remote role, but the candidate must be based in North Carolina to effectively support regional field activities.

This customer-facing role is designed for a hands-on building professional with a strong technical foundation in building science. The Specialist will work directly with builders and contractors in the field, providing training, technical support, and real-time problem-solving to advance resilient home construction practices.

This role bridges the gap between jobsite realities and business strategy, serving as a key conduit for field insights that inform product and system innovation, and contractor engagement.

Key Responsibilities:

Field Engagement & Support

  • Partner with builders and contractors, and installation partners on active job sites to provide building science guidance, support proper system installation, and troubleshoot real-world challenges.

  • Support builder-driven opportunities by helping translate resilient construction practices and system specification into field execution.

  • Support field adoption through pre-construction guidance, jobsite observations, installation support, and identification of barriers that could prevent broader implementation.

  • Collaborate with Territory Managers, Technical Services, and Contractor Engagement teams to deliver coordinated support to customers.

Training & Education

  • Conduct building science and resilience training programs across multiple modalities, including in-the-field, classroom, and online.

  • Deliver tailored education to contractors, builders, and architects, adapting content to regional needs and varying levels of technical expertise.

  • Work collaboratively with the architectural/specification community to educate, through CEU courses, and develop/update construction specifications to include building science and resilient construction best practices.

Customer-Centric Insight Gathering

  • Actively listen and observe on job sites, in meetings, and over calls to identify builder, contractor, installer and architect pain points.

  • Document and communicate field insights to internal teams to inform product and system innovation and contractor engagement programs.

  • Serve as a trusted technical resource for internal stakeholders, helping translate field realities into actionable strategies and scalable building science solutions.

Required Qualifications

  • BS degree in Building Science, Architecture, Engineering, or related technical field with 12+ years of experience in residential construction, with hands-on field experience or MS degree with 7+ years of hands-on experience in residential construction.

Required Skills

  • Strong technical understanding of residential construction practices, building science principles, especially related to the building envelope and resilience. Technical knowledge of roofing and siding systems, waterproofing methods, general building practices, and residential building codes.

  • Proven ability to engage and build trust across the residential construction ecosystem, including builders, contractors, installing trades, and architects.

  • Strong computer skills, including Powerpoint and Excel.

  • Demonstrated ability to deliver professional presentations to diverse audiences.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Strong curiosity and ability to enquire to understand technical and economic motivations behind observed construction practices.

  • Strong customer-centric mindset with a proven ability to translate customer and stakeholder needs into actionable insights and strategic recommendations.

  • Ability to work independently while collaborating closely with cross-functional teams.

  • Willingness and ability to travel approximately 50% of the time across assigned region.

Preferred Skills & Qualifications

  • Certifications such as BPI, RESNET, HERS, LEED, or similar.

  • Familiarity with Salesforce and Showpad

  • Experience delivering technical training or educational programs.

  • Familiarity with climate-resilient construction practices

  • Passion for innovation and continuous improvement in the built environment.

  • Spanish or Portuguese fluency a strong plus.

  • Experience in sales, preferably at a building product manufacturer, is a plus
