School Nutrition Coordinator

REPORTS TO: Director of School Nutrition

JOB OBJECTIVES (Purpose of the position): To assist the Director of School Nutrition in the supervision, assessment, planning,implementation,coordination and evaluation of the food and nutrition service operation in the schools. To supervise all aspects of the program in the absence of the Director of School Nutrition. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (Functions essential to attaining job objectives): Strategic Goal Area I – Student Achievement

  1. Ensure all students have an opportunity to receive a healthy meal

  2. Coordinate with managers as they provide nutrition education materials enabling the schools to educate the students

  3. Coordinate with the System Leadership Team to provide assistance with school wide initiatives for the current year Strategic Goal Area II – Stakeholder Engagement & Loyalty

  4. Guide and work with principals and managers in implementing the program in accordance with local, state and federal requirements. Strategic Goal Area III – Efficient and Effective Organizational Processes

  5. Review USDA Free and Reduced Verification

  6. Substitute for the School Nutrition Manager when the manager is absent for two (2) or more days, or at the Director's request

  7. Assist managers with staffing, quality food preparation, production records and meal costs

  8. Possess a basic understanding of computer operations and demonstrate basic computer skills

  9. Assist managers with the transfer and replacement of equipment

  10. Assist managers in developing and/or improving work schedules in each kitchen

  11. Conduct taste testing to evaluate food items to ensure acceptability and that they meet bid specifications

  12. Plan and provide for in-house catering

  13. Perform any additional duties as assigned by the Director of School Nutrition Strategic Goal Area IV – Continuous System and School Improvement

  14. Assist with adherence to the local, state and federal policies and regulations

  15. Conduct/assist with mandated accountability review for each school

  16. Review purchased and USDA inventories and other monthly reports

  17. Interpret reports to managers to help them operate the program more efficiently

  18. Conduct Orientation and Training-In-Depth (TID) courses as needed

  19. With the Director, evaluate the job performance of the school nutrition managers

  20. Attend and/or conduct Manager's Meetings, In-Service Training and other training required by the Director

  21. Provide on-site training and technical assistance to managers and food assistants

  22. Develop and implement new programs and assist in the introduction of new products to increase participation in the school nutrition operation

  23. Processes applicants for substituting in the school nutrition program OTHER EXPECTATIONS

  24. Adhere to the Code of Ethics for Educators in Georgia

  25. Demonstrate prompt and regular attendance /timeliness

  26. Complete assignments and requirements on time and in compliance with directions

  27. Maintain accurate, complete, and appropriate records and file reports promptly

  28. Maintain confidentiality of information and records for students and staff JOB STANDARDS (Minimum qualifications needed to perform essential job functions):

  29. Bachelor's degree in a related field, preferred

  30. Five (5) years experience as a school nutrition manager, public school experience preferred

  31. School Nutrition Association (SNA) certified, preferred

  32. Completion of the required Training-In-Depth courses

  33. Training Skills for Managers course is preferred

  34. Working knowledge of school nutrition equipment

  35. Ability to work harmoniously with others

  36.
