Full job description
About us AIM builds autonomy for the real world — robots that move mountains. Our systems fuse software, hardware, robotics, and mission-critical infrastructure into ruggedized, safety-critical machinery operating on jobsites across the world. We replace decades of manual, error-prone, high-risk work with intelligent machines that reshape how earthmoving is done. Our autonomous systems must perform reliably across different machines, hardware configurations, and operating environments. Verification is critical to ensuring our embedded software and hardware work together as expected before deployment. We're expanding our Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing capabilities to improve test coverage, automate validation, and support new machine platforms. We need engineers who can build and maintain the infrastructure that makes reliable testing possible at scale. Learn more about AIM here.
About you You're a hands-on verification engineer who enjoys finding problems before they reach production. You have experience developing automated tests for embedded systems and understand how to use Hardware-in-the-Loop testing to validate software interacting with real hardware. You're comfortable writing Python automation, working with C++ systems, and troubleshooting issues across software, electronics, and test equipment. When a test fails, you don't simply report the failure — you investigate whether the problem originates in the product, the test software, or the test infrastructure. You're curious, meticulous, and motivated by making testing more repeatable, reliable, and efficient. You take ownership of problems and enjoy turning manual procedures into automated workflows. You thrive in environments where test infrastructure is still evolving and where you'll need to build solutions rather than simply execute predefined test plans.
About us together We're building the verification infrastructure that ensures AIM's autonomous heavy equipment operates reliably in the real world. That means solving challenging problems:
-
Automating hardware and software validation through HIL testing.
-
Increasing test coverage across embedded control systems and machine interfaces.
-
Extending test infrastructure to support new equipment platforms and hardware configurations.
-
Identifying failures across firmware, electrical systems, and communication interfaces.
-
Improving test repeatability and reducing time spent diagnosing failures.
-
Ensuring critical embedded functionality is validated throughout the development and release process.
We'll build test systems that help engineering teams identify problems earlier, accelerate development, and deploy reliable autonomous machines.
What you will own Develop Automated HIL Testing
-
Design, implement, and maintain automated tests for AIM's embedded software and hardware systems.
-
Convert existing manual test procedures into repeatable automated test workflows.
-
Develop Python-based test scripts, utilities, and automation frameworks.
-
Expand HIL test coverage across embedded controllers, sensors, actuators, and communication interfaces.
Build and Extend Verification Infrastructure
-
Maintain and improve existing HIL test benches and supporting infrastructure.
-
Extend HIL hardware and software configurations to support additional machine platforms, including new excavator and heavy equipment integrations.
-
Integrate new hardware components, interfaces, and simulated inputs into verification environments.
-
Troubleshoot test equipment, wiring, electrical interfaces, and software configuration issues.
Improve Test Reliability and Debugging
-
Investigate failures across embedded software, hardware, and test infrastructure.
-
Identify root causes and distinguish product defects from test environment issues.
-
Improve test repeatability, logging, and failure diagnostics.
-
Reduce manual intervention and engineering time required to maintain test systems.
Support Continuous Verification
-
Execute automated HIL tests during development and for software releases.
-
Collaborate with Firmware, Electrical, and Systems Engineering to define test requirements.
-
Identify gaps in test coverage and develop new validation scenarios.
-
Document test results, communicate failures, and support resolution of identified issues.
Raise the Verification Bar
-
Improve automation practices, test maintainability, and verification workflows.
-
Help establish scalable verification processes as AIM expands its fleet and hardware platforms.
-
Advocate for comprehensive testing and proactive defect detection.
-
Contribute to a culture of engineering rigor and continuous improvement.
Basic Qualifications
-
Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics, or equivalent practical experience.
-
3+ years of professional experience in embedded systems, verification, validation, or related engineering roles.
-
At least 1 year of professional experience focused on verification and test automation.
-
