Full job description

Description We are looking for a Controller to lead accounting operations and provide dependable financial insight for a growing organization in Carlsbad, California. This role is responsible for overseeing core financial activities, strengthening reporting accuracy, and supporting leadership with timely analysis that informs strategic decisions. The ideal candidate brings strong experience in manufacturing-focused accounting environments and is comfortable managing both day-to-day financial operations and long-term process improvements.

Responsibilities:

  • Direct the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close process while ensuring accurate financial statements and management reporting are delivered on schedule.

  • Oversee cost accounting activities, inventory valuation, revenue treatment, and overall financial reporting to maintain reliable accounting records.

  • Administer and enhance the NetSuite environment, including reporting structures, accounting workflows, and internal control configurations.

  • Contribute to budgeting, forecasting, cash planning, and financial modeling to support operational and executive decision-making.

  • Collaborate with operations and company leadership to evaluate manufacturing costs, pricing strategies, customer margins, and capital investment plans.

  • Establish, maintain, and refine accounting policies, procedures, and control measures that support compliance and financial integrity.

  • Coordinate external audits, tax-related submissions, and other regulatory reporting obligations in a timely and organized manner.

  • Deliver clear financial analysis and performance updates to executive leadership and stakeholders while highlighting risks and opportunities.

  • Lead and develop a small team across finance-related functions, including assigning work, coaching performance, and supporting employee growth.

  • Identify and implement improvements to processes, systems, and controls to scale the finance function effectively as business needs evolve. Requirements • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration with an accounting focus, or a closely related discipline.

  • At least 5 years of progressively responsible accounting experience, including leadership experience at the Controller, Assistant Controller, or Accounting Manager level.

  • Strong background in manufacturing cost accounting, month-end close, and financial reporting within a product-based business.

  • Practical experience with NetSuite; hands-on knowledge of system administration and reporting is highly valued.

  • Understanding of budgeting, forecasting, cost control, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.

  • Advanced proficiency with accounting systems, spreadsheets, and Microsoft Office applications.

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work independently, manage priorities, and build effective partnerships with senior leadership.

  • Experience in biopharma, life sciences, contract manufacturing, or other regulated manufacturing settings is preferred.
