What’s the Role?

We’re looking for a Data Scientist to join Etsy’s Payments Analytics team and help make payments more seamless and reliable. You’ll partner with Product, Engineering, and fellow analysts to evaluate opportunities and inform product decisions through analysis, experimentation, and foundational data work.

This is a full-time position reporting to the Manager, Analytics.

What’s this team like at Etsy?

The Payments team improves buyer and seller financial experiences and the infrastructure that supports transactions across Etsy. Payments Analytics helps the team understand customer behavior, builds trusted data sources, and measures the impact of product decisions.

What does the day-to-day look like?

• Own well-scoped analyses, from understanding product goals and questions to defining metrics that measure success and sharing findings.

• Analyze buyer and seller behaviors to identify ways to improve payments experiences.

• Design and analyze experiments to measure product impact.

• Build and maintain reliable datasets and dashboards, with clear documentation.

• Turn findings into actionable recommendations and work with partner teams to prioritize follow-up opportunities.

Qualities that will help you thrive in this role are:

• 2+ years of experience in data science, analytics, or another quantitative role, using data to answer business questions.

• Proficient in SQL, with some experience in Python or R.

• Experience with experimentation, dashboarding, and foundational statistical methods.

• Ability to manage well-scoped analytical projects and collaborate with stakeholders from planning through delivery.

• Strong commitment to data quality, reproducibility, and clear documentation

• Ability to communicate insights clearly and translate findings into actionable recommendations

• Curiosity about customer behavior and a growth mindset.

• Experience in payments, marketplaces, or e-commerce is a plus.

Compensation & Benefits In addition to salary, you'll be eligible for an equity package, an annual performance bonus, and our competitive benefits that support you and your family. Base salary is determined by your location, skills, and experience.

Etsy uses two geographic pay zones to reflect the labor markets where we compete for talent: one called Geo-1, covering the New York City metropolitan area, San Francisco Bay Area, and Seattle metropolitan area, and one called Geo-2, covering all other U.S. locations. Salary ranges for this role vary by zone and are listed below.

Location We prioritize candidates based within commutable distance of Etsy’s Brooklyn Office. Depending on proximity, we ask team members to come in once or twice per week. Remote candidates outside commutable distance may be considered on a case-by-case basis, with the expectation of occasional travel to the office. Salary Range:

• Geo-1: 126,000.00 - 170,000.00 USD Annual
• Geo-2: 113,000.00 - 153,000.00 USD Annual
