We bring service with passion, loyalty with purpose, and create experiences that genuinely connect—delivering quality, value, and memorable stays across 1,000+ properties in eight countries (and counting).

What this role is all about

At Sonesta, our Area General Managers lead more than hotels — they lead markets, teams, strategy, and culture. As the Area General Manager, you’ll oversee multiple hotels within a region or portfolio while driving operational excellence, financial performance, guest satisfaction, and leadership development across the market.

This role is perfect for someone who thrives in a fast-paced hospitality environment and enjoys balancing strategic leadership, hotel operations, commercial performance, team development, and owner relationships. You’ll partner closely with General Managers, Operations leaders, Sales, Revenue Management, Finance, and corporate teams to maximize hotel performance while creating exceptional guest and employee experiences across the portfolio.

If you’re a dynamic hospitality leader with a passion for people, operations, and business growth — we’d love to meet you.

What you’ll be doing

  • Lead and support multiple hotels across a regional or market portfolio while driving operational consistency, guest satisfaction, and business performance.

  • Coach, mentor, and develop General Managers and hotel leadership teams to strengthen operational leadership, employee engagement, and property performance.

  • Monitor hotel operational KPIs including occupancy, ADR, RevPAR, labor management, guest satisfaction, profitability, and market share performance.

  • Partner closely with Sales, Revenue Management, Marketing, Finance, and Operations teams to maximize revenue growth and commercial success across the portfolio.

  • Oversee hotel operational standards, service culture, brand compliance, safety programs, and quality assurance initiatives across assigned properties.

  • Support budgeting, forecasting, labor management, capital planning, operational strategy, and expense management initiatives.

  • Conduct regular property visits, operational walkthroughs, leadership meetings, inspections, and performance reviews across hotels within the market.

  • Lead strategic planning initiatives including hotel transitions, renovations, openings, operational improvements, and portfolio growth opportunities.

  • Build strong relationships with ownership groups, corporate partners, vendors, local organizations, and hospitality industry stakeholders.

  • Support crisis management, operational recovery efforts, emergency response planning, and business continuity initiatives as needed.

  • Drive a culture of accountability, collaboration, operational excellence, and guest-focused leadership aligned with Sonesta’s People People philosophy.

  • Represent the hotels and Sonesta brand within the hospitality industry, business community, and regional market.

  • Any other duties as assigned.

What great looks like

  • Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management, Business, Finance, or related field preferred.

  • 10+ years of progressive hotel leadership, multi-property operations, hospitality management, or executive hotel leadership experience preferred.

  • Previous Area General Manager, Regional Operations Leader, General Manager, or multi-property hospitality leadership experience preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of hotel operations, revenue management, Food & Beverage, labor management, guest satisfaction, financial performance, and hospitality operations.

  • Proven experience managing multiple hotels, operational teams, budgets, forecasting, and commercial performance initiatives.

  • Excellent leadership, communication, financial, relationship-building, and strategic planning skills.

  • Ability to lead large, cross-functional teams across multiple hotel environments.

  • Strong operational mindset with the ability to balance guest experience, employee engagement, and business performance effectively.

  • Experience using PMS systems, operational reporting platforms, hospitality technology, and business intelligence tools preferred.

  • Ability to travel regularly between hotel properties, meetings, and operational locations as needed.

  • Flexible availability including evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call operational support as required.

  • A passion for hospitality, leadership, operational excellence, team development, and creating exceptional guest experiences across every property.
