Summary

Health Technician in the Diagnostic & Therapeutic Care Line Imaging Service. Performs a variety of patient care and administrative tasks in multi-faceted capacity to support Advanced Diagnostic Imaging Technologists (ADRTs),and radiologists, ensuring the efficient operation of the imaging department and delivery of high quality patient care.

Duties

Receives request for procedures, interprets the request, and verifies exam related documents for accuracy. Confirms patient identity using two identifiers (patient name and social security number or date of birth) in accordance with VA directives. Performs thorough clinical assessments to evaluate the patient's needs, including noting any specific instructions or conditions such as allergies to contrast media, claustrophobia, or inability to lie flat. Screen patients for contraindications related to imaging, such as metal implants, medical devices, acute kidney impairment (AKI) or active implants Prepares patients for imaging procedures, including gowning and providing other necessary attire Educates competent patients, caregivers, or family members about the exams and potential hazards associated with them Assists with positioning patients safely and comfortably on the imaging table for procedures Observe patients during and between exams, addressing any discomfort and monitoring potential issues Transports patients to and from radiology, nursing units, the emergency room, and other areas within the department using appropriate transport methods (DTCL, lobby, etc). Removes intravenous (IV) catheters (as trained) and provides post-procedure instructions to the patient Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 1:00pm-9:30pm (subject to change based on facility needs) Virtual: This is not a virtual position. Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959 Physical Requirements: Physical demands are usually moderate. Lifting objects up to 40 pounds, moving specialized equipment and assisting patients from a stretcher, hospital bed or wheelchair to a procedure scan table. Occasionally, the technician assists with moving of heavy equipment or large patients, but this is done with the assistance of others to minimize the danger to the individual. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 10/09/2026. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Experience utilizing medical terminology and diagnostic imaging (X-ray, CT, MRI, Ultrasound), clinical assessments and imaging contraindications; Experience in preparing, educating and positioning patients for imaging procedures; Experience verifying patient information and maintaining medical records and documents in a computerized system; Scheduling and maintaining patient exams and appointments; Experience with equipment preparation and troubleshooting OR, Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have successfully completed a half year (9 credits) of graduate education or completed an internship directly related to the position. If education is used to meet specialized experience requirements, then such education must include courses directly related to the work of the position. (Transcripts required). OR, Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education beyond the undergraduate education, if related, and specialized experience as described above. This education and experience must have provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities to do the work of the position.
