Full job description

State of Idaho Opportunity

Lead Deputy Attorney General, Special Prosecutions Unit

Closing Date: Open until filled.

Start Date: To be determined upon hire.

Salary: Depends on Experience (DOE).

Primary Duties:

The Office of the Attorney General is seeking an attorney to serve as Lead Deputy Attorney General of the Special Prosecutions Unit (SPU). SPU prosecutes cases for the Idaho Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, along with insurance fraud cases, public corruption cases, and referral cases from county prosecuting attorneys. SPU, including the Lead DAG, may also be assigned to assist county prosecuting attorneys in major cases.

The Lead DAG supervises, trains, and mentors the SPU team of prosecutors and support staff and oversees the Unit's prosecutions from search warrant review and screening through trial and sentencing. In addition to carrying their own caseload, the Lead DAG directs the screening of public corruption complaints and referral requests from county prosecuting attorneys and works closely with the Attorney General's investigative units.

This position is also responsible for SPU's external relationships. The Unit's success depends on strong partnerships with law enforcement agencies, county prosecuting attorneys, state agencies, and federal partners across Idaho, including the ICAC Task Force.

SPU's cases come from every corner of the State, which requires this position to travel frequently to courts throughout Idaho.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must hold an active Idaho Bar license or be eligible for admission to the Idaho State Bar.

  • Experience in criminal law.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective, professional working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, employees, other government agencies, the legislature, and the public.

  • Comfortable managing cases that draw media attention, and a strong enthusiasm for public service.

  • Ability to pass a Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) background check and maintain CJIS access.

  • A valid driver's license and the ability to frequently travel statewide.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prosecution and jury trial experience.

  • Experience with ICAC, financial fraud, and public corruption cases.

  • Experience supervising, training, and mentoring professional and administrative employees.

  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with federal, state, and local agencies.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience in public speaking.
