Full job description

Job Duties

As a Senior Software Development Engineer in Test, you will lead quality engineering and software verification activities for secure, scalable web and mobile solutions. You will work across the software development lifecycle, partnering with cross-functional teams to define test strategies, build maintainable automation, strengthen product quality, and deliver compliant digital products in a regulated medical device environment.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, and execution of software verification and test automation solutions spanning web, mobile, API, backend microservices, and integrated systems.

  • Define comprehensive test strategies, test plans, risk-based verification approaches, and release-quality criteria based on business, system, software, and regulatory requirements.

  • Design, develop, debug, and maintain production-grade automated tests and reusable test frameworks using established architectural and coding standards.

  • Translate business, system, and software requirements into traceable test designs, test cases, automation assets, and objective verification evidence.

  • Validate frontend user interfaces, backend microservices, APIs, databases, messaging workflows, and end-to-end system behavior.

  • Implement automated functional, integration, regression, negative, reliability, and performance tests, as appropriate to product risk and architecture.

  • Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines and establish quality gates that provide timely feedback on build and release readiness.

  • Apply secure coding and test-development practices, including code reviews, version control, maintainability, reuse, and appropriate test-data handling.

  • Collaborate with architects, technical leads, software engineers, systems engineers, quality engineers, security teams, DevOps engineers, Product Owners, and UI/UX engineers throughout product development.

  • Participate in design reviews, requirements reviews, defect triage, root-cause analysis, risk assessments, and technical decision-making.

  • Investigate complex failures across application, service, device, network, and test-environment layers; document findings and drive corrective and preventive actions.

  • Monitor test results and quality metrics, identify coverage gaps and recurring defect patterns, and recommend improvements to engineering practices and product quality.

  • Support software lifecycle activities from planning and design through implementation, verification, validation support, product release, and maintenance.

  • Create and maintain audit-ready verification documentation, traceability, test records, defect evidence, and other lifecycle artifacts required for regulated software.

  • Mentor engineers in test architecture, automation design, debugging techniques, verification practices, and quality ownership.

  • Contribute to continuous improvement of test frameworks, tools, environments, standards, and team processes.

Minimum Education Required

Bachelor's degree with 6 years of relevant experience, OR Master's degree with 4 years of relevant experience

Minimum Experience Required

Required Qualifications

  • Experience in software development, software test engineering, or quality engineering for production-grade applications.

  • Experience developing automated tests or software solutions using Java and JavaScript.

  • Experience testing web applications, mobile applications, APIs, backend services, or distributed systems.

  • Experience authoring software verification artifacts, including test strategies, test designs, test cases, and test results.

  • Experience using source control, defect tracking, build pipelines, and continuous integration practices.

  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex software and system issues and communicate findings clearly to technical and cross-functional stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Java, JavaScript, and/or Kotlin for application development or test automation.

  • Hands-on experience with web and mobile automation tools or frameworks such as Selenium, Appium, Playwright, Cypress, REST-assured, JUnit, TestNG, or similar technologies.

  • Experience with one or more application frameworks or technologies such as Spring, JPA, Hibernate, Angular, or RxJS.

  • Knowledge of messaging and streaming solutions such as ActiveMQ, Amazon SQS, and Kafka.

  • Experience with relational databases such as MySQL or PostgreSQL, including data validation, SQL queries, and data modeling concepts.

  • Experience validating microservices, REST APIs, asynchronous workflows, and event-driven architectures.

  • Experience building and testing applications for high availability, reliability, performance, security, and scalability.

  • Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, or comparable platforms.

  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure and with containerized test environments.

  • Experience partnering with cross-functional stakeholders, including UI/UX Engineers, Product Owners, Architects, Systems Engineers, Quality Engineers, Security Engineers, and DevOps teams throughout the product development lifecycle.

  • Experience authoring software requirements and translating them into comprehensive verification strategies, test designs, traceability, and test cases.

  • Experience participating in the complete software development lifecycle, from planning and design through implementation, verification, product release, and maintenance.

  • Familiarity with regulated software development environments and industry standards for medical device software.

  • Knowledge of risk-based testing, requirements traceability, configuration management, defect management, and audit-ready documentation.
