The Role

The Executive Director, Strategy and Business Development provides strategy and business development leadership for the implementation of strategic initiatives and service line growth for the Service Area, including but not limited to strategic planning, capital planning, mergers/acquisitions, and collaborative joint ventures with other providers and partners. The Executive Director will also conduct market analyses, develop business plans, and other strategic planning material as required to support business decisions, program development, and implementation. This caregiver provides leadership and coordination on development of construction projects, coordinates and develops annual goals and objectives, and is responsible for the strategic planning process of the Service Area, in line with Division and System strategic goals. The Executive Director will also provide strategic expertise/counsel for the Executive Leadership of the Service Area, as well as input and support to various Division committees, initiatives, and projects.

The position oversees the portfolio development and strategic market growth of all service lines within the Service Area to ensure seamless patient movement along the care continuum. Duties include guiding strategic plans consistent with the PSJH 2030 Strategic Direction, conducting annual goal setting, performance monitoring, physician relationship strategies, and outreach programs. This position is accountable for assessing, planning, developing and implementing strategies and tactics to achieve optimal financial performance, clinical excellence, and market leadership. The incumbent will work cross functionally to develop strategic initiatives and assess new and ongoing projects.

What You'll Do

  • Lead strategy and vision for the Service Area using a data-driven approach to development of business plans, programs, goals and objectives. Responsible for new business strategies such as physician alignment approaches, partnership and other joint ventures, and business cases for organic growth. Track progress against plans on a regular basis and provide report outs to relevant Service Area and Division bodies.

  • Be an active participant and member of the Central Puget Sound Executive Leadership Team by furthering achievement of strategic goals and objectives. Actively and willingly lead and participate in assigned committees, task forces and other work groups. Attend management retreats and/or other management functions. Participate in management skills development.

  • Directly manage all strategic capital requests, ensuring comprehensive oversight of the identification, planning, and presentation of such requests to the Division Strategy Council and appropriate system council approving bodies.

  • Direct the development of effective service line growth and outreach programs to achieve optimal clinical and financial performance goals. Participate in service line and organizational committees to coordinate market and program development across the Service Area and region.

  • Conduct routine service line portfolio review and make overall strategic recommendations to ensure growth aspirations can be achieved on an annual basis as well as ensure a balanced market performance position.

  • Collaborate with Finance on growth targets for long-term financial plans as well as annual budgets, including provider recruitment, alignment, and growth initiatives.

  • Support Division and regional strategic priorities, including leading content development for quarterly business reviews and contributing to strategic field reviews.

  • Coordinate joint venture/affiliation work at the Service Area level with external organizations, including leading contract development, opportunity assessment, and operational set up.

  • Serve as a partner to Clinical and Operational Leaders in the process of bringing growth ideas to execution on time.

  • Ensure best practices are shared and consistently applied across all Service Lines.

What You'll Bring

Education & Credentials

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business or related field preferred. Experience in the healthcare industry may be considered in lieu of advanced education.

  • Master's Degree. An advanced degree (MBA, MPH) or clinical degree with requisite strategy experience (preferred).

Experience & Expertise

  • 7 years of experience in strategy and business development or complex business project management experience.

  • 7 years of documented success in strategy, business development, or program management.

  • Administrative or leadership experience (preferred).

  • Strategy and business development experience in the Washington State healthcare marketplace (preferred).

  • Experience collaborating directly with healthcare executives and decision makers, physicians, hospitals, and other healthcare providers (preferred).

The full pay range is listed in accordance with applicable law. Final compensation will be determined based on qualifications, experience, organizational compensation alignment, and the approved hiring department budget for the position. This position may also be eligible for incentive compensation and benefits.

Posted are the minimum and the maximum wage rates on the wage range for this position. The successful candidate's placement on the wage range for this position will be determined based upon relevant job experience and other applicable factors. These amounts are the base pay range; additional compensation may be available for this role, such as shift differentials, standby/on-call, overtime, premiums, extra shift incentives, or bonus opportunities.
