Full job description

Description

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we’re the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain — and we’re looking for talented people who want to help.

The Power & Cooling (PAC) team is seeking a results-oriented individual with strong business judgement and experience working with internal and external stakeholders to own demand planning and the Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) process for Data Center Power & Cooling equipment. Our Demand & S&OP Managers are high-energy self-starters who are excited to work across functions to turn a volatile demand signal into a clean, executable plan that the rest of the supply chain can run on.

As a member of the Power and Cooling Supply Chain Management Team, this is an individual-contributor role that owns the demand signal end to end: verifying it, resolving anomalies with upstream teams, reading the patterns in it, and absorbing the volatile long-horizon work — the changes a year or more out — so the execution team does not have to. You will run the S&OP process as the organization’s orchestration layer, and act as the single point of truth for what the business actually needs, when it needs it. You do this through influence rather than authority, partnering across Design, Technical Infrastructure Program Managers (TIPMs), Global Category Managers (GCMs), and the Materials Managers who execute against your signal.

You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. And you’ll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own projects through completion.

Key job responsibilities

  • The Demand & S&OP Manager is an individual contributor who serves as the orchestrator of the demand signal for AWS data center Power & Cooling equipment. This role drives forecast accuracy, pattern detection, and cross-functional alignment so the execution team receives a clean, executable signal.

  • Demand Planning and Forecasting — You will spearhead the development and maintenance of a rolling three-year forecast for Long Lead Equipment (LLE), collaborating with business partners to capture evolving requirements. This includes managing schedule changes, tracking design modifications, and validating net-new demand to maintain forecast accuracy, and coordinating with Design teams so equipment specifications align with construction timelines through a change-management process that achieves first-time-right implementations.

  • S&OP Orchestration — You will run the Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) process as the organization’s nerve center, built on four pillars: demand changes and their impact, the supply position and its constraints, the inventory and storage position, and the operational patterns underneath. You will convert S&OP from a report-out forum into a true orchestration mechanism that reduces noise in the demand signal and drives cross-functional resolution.

  • Pattern Detection and Signal Integrity — You will act as the gatekeeper of signal quality — distinguishing confirmed demand from speculative demand, catching anomalies and impossible date sequences before they propagate, and reading patterns across the operation so recurring issues are routed to the function that can fix them at the source.

  • Risk Highlighting and Prioritization — You will serve as an early-warning system for demand-side risk, maintaining a dynamic view of where the plan and reality diverge. While Global Supply Chain Managers handle supplier negotiations, you will partner with them to highlight risk and support mitigation, and you will drive build-prioritization decisions as the key liaison to the business.

  • Cross-Functional Alignment — You will align the PAC demand and S&OP cadence with the broader AWS S&OP cycle and bring Design, TIPMs, and GCMs into that rhythm, so our plan feeds — and is shaped by — the decisions made around us rather than arriving after they are set.

  • Success in this role directly impacts AWS’s ability to deliver data centers on schedule, with performance measured by forecast accuracy, signal quality, and the reduction of downstream noise — rather than supplier negotiations and capacity management.

A day in the life

  • Communicate ideas concisely to a wide variety of stakeholders, for purposes ranging from informative to securing approvals from executives.

  • Embody a true pioneering spirit, willing to “get your hands dirty” in a start-up environment while simultaneously developing processes, automation, and delivering results.

  • Clearly define data requirements and metrics, working with teams to implement the entire data flow from capture to presentation and management.

  • Apply high attention to detail and a proven ability to manage multiple, competing priorities simultaneously.

  • Continuously improve the demand and S&OP process, building the automation and standards that make it repeatable and teachable.
