About this role

Your team

Employee Compliance sits within BlackRock’s Legal & Compliance function and is responsible for the framework governing employees’ personal activities. The Americas Employee Compliance Advisory team is a key employee-facing point of contact, providing clear, practical guidance on Employee Compliance requirements and supporting the effective identification, assessment and management of employee conflicts.

Your role and impact

Based in Wilmington, Delaware, you will lead the delivery of Employee Compliance advisory services across the Americas and provide direction to the regional Advisory team. Your remit will include personal trading and investments, private investments, Outside Business Activities, Gifts & Entertainment and U.S. political contributions.

You will ensure employees receive clear, consistent and practical advice while maintaining appropriate standards of risk management, governance and escalation. You will personally oversee complex, sensitive and higher-risk matters, provide trusted guidance to senior leaders and partner with Executive Compliance on particularly complex executive matters.

Beyond day-to-day advisory responsibilities, you will help shape the broader Employee Compliance framework. You will use insights from advisory activity to identify emerging risks, strengthen policies and controls, improve the employee experience and support the continued evolution of the Employee Compliance program.

Your responsibilities

In every role at BlackRock, you'll be expected to apply sound judgement and critical thinking to solve complex problems, adapt as the business evolves, and combine the curiosity to explore new approaches and technologies with the rigor to challenge the results. The scope of this role also includes the following responsibilities:

  • Lead Americas Employee Compliance Advisory and manage and develop the regional Advisory team, setting priorities, service standards and accountability across employee-facing advice.

  • Serve as a senior trusted advisor to employees, business leaders and Legal & Compliance partners, including high-touch support for senior leaders and partnership with Executive Compliance on complex matters.

  • Oversee complex, novel and higher-risk employee conflicts matters, ensuring practical, consistent and appropriately documented risk-based decisions, conditions, exceptions and escalations.

  • Identify emerging risks, recurring themes and control gaps and translate advisory insights into enhancements to policies, procedures, controls, training and the global Employee Compliance framework.

  • Build strong partnerships across Legal & Compliance and Human Resources and represent Employee Compliance in relevant governance forums and cross-functional initiatives.

  • Monitor relevant regulatory and industry developments across the Americas and support regulatory examinations, internal audit and other assurance activity relating to Employee Compliance.

  • Use management information, case trends and employee feedback to improve program effectiveness and scalability, champion process, data and technology enhancements, and foster collaboration, accountability, sound judgment and continuous improvement.

Your experience

  • Significant relevant experience in Compliance, Legal, Risk or a related control function within financial services, with strong subject-matter expertise in employee compliance, employee conflicts or personal conduct frameworks.

  • Direct experience with employee personal-activity requirements such as personal trading and investments, private investments, Outside Business Activities, Gifts & Entertainment and/or political contributions, together with an understanding of the related regulatory and conflicts-of-interest considerations.

  • Demonstrated people-leadership experience, with the ability to lead, coach and develop experienced compliance professionals and build an effective team.

  • Experience advising on complex, sensitive or judgment-based compliance matters, with strong risk judgment and the ability to balance regulatory requirements, reputational considerations and business needs.

  • Demonstrated ability to operate as a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders and influence effectively across a global, matrixed organization.

  • Experience developing or enhancing compliance frameworks, policies, procedures, governance or controls and working across functions to deliver sustainable program improvements.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication and organizational skills, a collaborative and solutions-oriented approach, and a bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience; an advanced legal, compliance or other relevant professional qualification would be advantageous.
