Senior Linux Engineer

Job Description

Insight Global is seeking a Senior Linux Engineer to support a Fortune 500 client’s enterprise infrastructure environment. This role is a highly visible role responsible for stabilizing, securing, and modernizing a large Linux ecosystem. The ideal candidate will bring deep Red Hat Linux expertise, strong VMware Cloud Foundation experience, and a passion for operational excellence. This engineer will step into an environment with limited documentation and standardization and will be expected to establish best practices, improve security posture, mature engineering processes, and continue cleanup efforts already underway. In addition to day-to-day infrastructure support, this individual will play a key role in future data center migration initiatives. Key Responsibilities

• Administer, support, and optimize enterprise Red Hat Linux environments (RHEL 7 and RHEL 9)
• Assess the current Linux landscape and implement operational and engineering best practices
• Lead security hardening initiatives across Linux servers and infrastructure components
• Improve environment stability, standardization, documentation, and supportability
• Perform Linux server patching, maintenance, upgrades, and lifecycle management
• Support VMware Cloud Foundation infrastructure, ensuring systems remain current and operational
• Manage and troubleshoot storage, virtualization, and networking components within VMware environments
• Partner with infrastructure teams on future data center migration efforts
• Support Active Directory-integrated Linux environments
• Collaborate with storage, backup, networking, and cloud teams to maintain enterprise platform reliability
• Participate in a light on-call rotation (approximately 6 hours of support activity per month)
• Assist with monitoring, troubleshooting, performance tuning, and root cause analysis across Linux-based systems

Skills and Requirements

• 6–10+ years of Linux engineering and administration experience

• Expert-level knowledge of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)

• Experience supporting enterprise Linux environments at scale

• Strong VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) experience

• Experience with Rubrik or similar cloud-managed backup and recovery solutions

• Hands-on experience with: o VMware vSphere o VMware vSAN o VMware NSX

• Experience supporting Linux environments integrated with Active Directory

• Strong understanding of security hardening, vulnerability remediation, and Linux engineering standards

• Experience performing system patching, upgrades, and lifecycle management

• Exposure to both on-premises and cloud-hosted infrastructure environments

• Ability to work independently in environments with limited documentation and established processes

• Strong troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills

• Experience supporting enterprise monitoring platforms and application monitoring tools

• Experience with infrastructure automation using: Ansible or Terraform

• Previous involvement in data center migrations, infrastructure modernization, or cloud transformation initiatives
