MEDICAL INSTRUMENT TECHNICIAN (GASTROENTEROLOGY)

Summary

About the Position: The Medical Instrument Technician (Gastroenterology) position is located at A.T. Augusta Military Medical Center, Director for Medicine, Department of Medicine, Gastroenterology Clinic, Fort Belvoir, VA. This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Duties

• Preparing patients for invasive procedures, including preoperative data collection.
• Providing patient education and information before and after procedures.
• Assisting Medical Staff in the invasive gastroenterological procedures.
• Starting Intravenous lines.
• Recording required documentation before during and after procedures.
• Disinfecting endoscopic equipment.
• Generating procedure reports.
• Operating video endoscopy equipment.
• Applying techniques of therapeutic endoscopy, including electrocoagulation and injection hemostasis.
• Performing preventive maintenance on all equipment.
• Handling biopsy tissue and other material obtained from patients during procedures, including proper recording and transport to the laboratory.
• Interacting directly with the Department of Pathology.
• Conducting hands-on training and technical oversight of other students and technologists.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education/experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service which includes 1) Preparing patients for procedures; 2) Assisting medical staff with the preparations, recovery and performance of medical procedures; 3) Starting intravenous lines; 4) Setting up medical equipment; 5) Operating medical equipment and; 6) high level disinfection of medical equipment. OR Education: One year of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60.
