Job Summary:

The HAZMAT Specialist I/Material Coordinator will provide logistics support and equipment operating services to NAVSUP FLC Norfolk. The position involves preparing and arranging materials and products in bulk and non-bulk forms for distribution or storage, moving and loading or unloading equipment, materials, and products, driving forklifts and related material-handling machinery and equipment, and using scoops, hand trucks, and wheelbarrows to load and move materials.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsibilities include understanding and compliance with all Naval Supply Procedures for inventory management of decentralized and decontrolled items, including supplies, equipment, forms and publications. The work includes requirements, determination and forecasting, distribution or redistribution of material, procurement authorization and limited funds management.

  • Assures production support for HAZMAT items requiring special handling. Maintains contact with customers and other offices on the requirements for the HAZMAT items. Reviews requisitions, supporting documents and reference material to identify special supply actions with transportation and other elements of the regional HAZMIN Center.

  • Provides an accurate accounting and reporting system for nonexpendable property. Reviews justification and recommends actions for property not on the plan. Conducts management studies on the utilization of the property, reviews records and demand data to identify obsolete or excess property and offers recommendations for the utilization of these items.

  • Conducts periodic location surveys and inventories in accordance with schedules. Correctly identifies and corrects inaccuracies in the Government Designated Software (GDS). Prepares issue, receipt, and inventory documents and inputs data into the GDS database. Prepares reports and documentation for the transfer of the excess items and locates surplus property that can be utilized. Establishes and controls suspense dates; schedules meetings and conferences, maintains calendars, etc. Determines nature of business based on knowledge of the organization and its functions, gives factual information to specific inquiries, refers caller/visitor to the appropriate staff member on more technical inquiries, or arranges contact with the director as appropriate.

Qualifications:

  • Must have obtained a High School diploma or GED.

  • Possess a minimum of four (4) years logistical experience, with at least two (2) years in a Navy or Marine Corps environment.

  • Contract personnel are required to have and maintain a current, valid state driver’s license.
