Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Actively engage with academic programs in the College of Engineering, the Departments of Mathematics and Physics, other university programs, and external groups.

  • Teach research instruction sessions for assigned subjects and academic programs.

  • In collaboration with library and campus stakeholders, design, deliver, and assess instruction sessions and learning objects that integrate AI concepts within information literacy and critical thinking frameworks.

-Regularly investigate and assess AI technologies for their use in teaching, learning, and research

  • Develop and promote effective and ethical research workflows using AI tools

  • Provide guidance and leadership on AI best practices in teaching and research in collaboration with other librarians

  • Develop appropriate instructional and informational aids for students, faculty, and staff. .

-Provide strategic support for collection development in assigned subject areas.

  • Provide research and reference support for assigned subjects to students, faculty, and community patrons.

-Provide advanced research support for students and faculty, including but not limited to assisting in evidence synthesis, ethical use of artificial intelligence, and documenting the impact of University research.

-Engage in professional service and scholarly contributions; participate in committees and faculty governance in the library and on campus.

  • Communicate effectively and positively with individuals of varied backgrounds.

-Participate in the provision of in-person and virtual research services and instruction for first-year undergraduate students.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Experience / Education:

The minimum academic credential required for applicants for faculty positions in Atkins Library is completion of a master’s degree in the field of library and information science from a program accredited by the American Library Association by time of interview.

Graduation with master’s degree in a specialized area directly relevant to the position description may be an acceptable substitute in certain situations if approved by the Dean. A second masters in another discipline or an earned doctorate is highly desirable.

Preferred Education Skills and Experience:

Degree or significant coursework in one or more disciplines of Engineering, or professional experience working with engineering students and faculty in a research library setting.

  • Two or more years of instruction or liaison experience in an academic research library.

  • Knowledge of the research needs of students and faculty at an R1 institution.

  • Knowledge of the structure, use, and preservation of information resources in assigned areas.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

-Able to work both collaboratively with a wide range of groups and independently

  • Knowledge of relevant professional and technological issues in assigned areas.

  • Ability to work effectively in an organization in which change is both essential and ongoing.

  • Demonstrated commitment to exceptional public service.
