Full job description
Reporting to the Budget Manager, the Budget Analyst is responsible for position budgeting and operational budget entry.
Position Control Management
- Reviews hiring proposals and salary actions and verifies funding in Banner Finance.
- Works closely with Human Resources and the Payroll Office to resolve payroll issues.
- Manages positions for all assignments: Ensures labor distribution coding is accurate; identifies and calculates corrections to labor distribution and loads them in Banner; and establishes and funds new positions as needed.
- Processes encumbrance liquidations.
- Maintains personnel roster and vacancy reports.
Budget Entry
- Loads budgets.
- Completes budget transfers.
- Calculates and enters course fee, lab fee and carryforward budgets.
Budget Research & Documentation
- Completes ad hoc budget research.
- Supports the resolution of overspent budgets.
- Performs routine and ad hoc budget analysis.
- Creates and maintains procedural documentation.

Collaborates with continuous improvement projects.

Supports employees with budget functions in Banner.

Sends communication and Daily Digests with budget updates and information.

Bachelor’s degree in accounting or similar with at least 15 semester hours in accounting-related courses and at least two years of relevant institution-level business, finance, payroll and/or budget experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Excel.

Working knowledge of the principles and theories of budgeting and financial management.

Knowledge of basic accounting principles and practices.

Exceptional organizational, customer service, and oral and written communication skills.

Effective interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students and the general public.

Sufficient technical skills to master software required to perform job duties.

Ability to handle confidential information discretely.

Ability to perform data entry with speed and accuracy.

Strong analytical and research skills.

Ability to exercise sound professional judgment and work with attention to detail and accuracy.

Accounting experience at an institution of higher education.
-
Experience with Ellucian Banner Finance Software.
