Job Description
The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for defining and supporting the technical aspects of operations at the Naval Foundry and Propeller Center (NFPC). NFPC is a low volume, large size, sand-cast foundry that primarily pours non-ferrous alloys from induction furnaces. NFPC completes all machining operations in house and ships completed products to our internal Navy customers.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Prepare designs, engineering plans, and specifications for new and overhaul crane contracts. Areas of design include mechanical systems, drive trains, gearing, material properties, braking systems, couplings, etc.

Prepares correspondence (official letters, memos, emails, etc.) technical specifications, reports, and engineering procedures.

Define projects, develop scopes of work, cost estimates, and schedules for various mechanical design projects for the purpose of securing project approval and funding.

Reviews mechanical crane designs from crane manufacturers for conformance with contract specifications and intended function, identify discrepancies in drawings, calculations, and data from designers/manufacturers.

Acts as a liaison with outside interests including NAVSEA, NAVFAC, NNSY, NCC, engineering firms, and crane manufacturers on specific projects.

Shall assist in developing and implementing engineering process controls/techniques for continuous improvement of lifting and assembly operations.

Evaluate in-service problems and develops short and long term solutions to keep cranes safe and reliable.

Shall perform other tasks as required.
Qualifications Required for the Position
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering. Area of expertise should reside in Manufacturing, Mechanical or equivalent.
