JOB SUMMARY:

General Employee/Labor Health & Safety work encompasses activities related to the wellbeing of employees including: •Developing and implementing policies and practices to identify/mitigate hazardous conditions within the workplace •Identifying potential workplace hazards, unsafe equipment, work practices, and working conditions •Investigating accidents and liaising with engineers, management, and health and safety regulatory authorities to identify causes of accidents and prevent their recurrence •Providing advice and training on safety protocols and conducting audits to ensure compliance with organization and government standards related to employee health and safety •Maintaining and analyzing records of workplace injuries, illness, and absences to identify areas of concern and provide information required by regulatory agencies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Individuals in these roles have a functional knowledge focus and are primarily responsible for achieving results through their own work and through teams that they may be part of.

  • Requires the application of theoretical knowledge typically gained through formal education (i.e. a postsecondary degree) and on the job training.

  • Progression within the levels reflects increased functional expertise, scope and complexity of work, and ability to influence others.

  • May mentor, coach and/or train less experienced co-workers.

  • Specialized depth and breadth of expertise in own discipline or field.

  • Contributes to the development of new concepts, techniques, and standards.

  • Considered expert in field within the organization.

  • Develops solutions to complex issues; analysis requires in depth evaluation of variable factors and regular use of ingenuity and innovation.

  • Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results and innovative solutions.

  • Effects of decisions are long-lasting and heavily influence the organization's future.

  • Errors in judgment or failure to achieve results would result in the expenditure of large amounts of company resources.

  • Works under minimal direction.

  • Exercises considerable latitude in determining objectives and approaches to assignment; influences others.

  • Serves as consultant to leadership and special external spokesperson for the organization on major matters pertaining to its policies, plans, and objectives.

Safe Quality Food Responsibilities:

  • Follow all Plant rules, Processes, Hygiene, and Allergens procedures, related to production of Safe Quality Foods.

  • Report to person of authority to record any potentially unsafe conditions which may result in unsafe foods or noncompliance to SQF related procedures.

  • Participate in SQF Root Cause and Corrective Actions (from customer complaints, SQF audits, validation, and verification activities) as required.

  • Follow all procedures related to producing Safe Quality Foods (SQF).

  • Report any potentially unsafe SQF conditions or customer complaints to a person of authority to record and/or correct the situation

Education & Experience:

BA or equivalent + 10 yrs related experience, or MA + 8 yrs related experience
