Position OverviewThe Environmental Services Aide at United Health Services (UHS) helps maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming healthcare environment that supports patient and resident care every day. This role performs housekeeping, floor care, linen and waste handling, and infection prevention activities while following established safety and sanitation standards. Working closely with clinical and support teams, the Environmental Services Aide helps ensure patient-ready spaces, supports efficient operations, and contributes to a positive care experience through reliable service, professionalism, and a commitment to quality and safety.

$15.00 - $20.74 per hour, depending on experience


Job Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

  • Maintain assigned areas in a clean, safe, sanitary, and patient/resident-ready condition by following prescribed cleaning methods and quality standards

  • Perform routine housekeeping, floor care, and environmental services duties, including waste and linen handling, to support infection prevention

  • Apply infection control practices, including universal precautions, isolation precautions, hand hygiene, and appropriate use of personal protective equipment, to reduce risk and protect patients, residents, visitors, and team members

  • Use cleaning chemicals, floor care equipment, linen and waste carts, and furniture-moving equipment safely and correctly as assigned in accordance with facility procedures and safety standards

  • Maintain environmental services equipment, supplies, janitor closets, equipment rooms, and trash and linen chute rooms to establish cleanliness, safety, and readiness standards

  • Complete support tasks as assigned, which may include changing cubicle curtains and drapes, performing meeting room set-ups, moving office furniture and beds

  • Support patient flow communication through approved electronic systems

  • Complete required logs, documentation, and communication tasks accurately and on time to support operational efficiency, room readiness, and high-quality environmental services

Scope and Impact:

  • Contribute directly to a safe, healing, and welcoming healthcare environment that supports patient/resident care, infection prevention, and the overall care experience

  • Work under established procedures and general supervision while exercising sound judgment in prioritizing assigned work, recognizing safety concerns, and escalating issues appropriately

  • Support team and department operations through reliable execution of assigned responsibilities, effective communication, and collaboration with clinical and non-clinical partners

Compliance and Professional:

  • Follow department policies, hospital or long-term care facility procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements related to environmental sanitation, infection control, waste handling, linen handling, and workplace safety

  • Complete DOT Hazardous Materials (HazMat) Training for Regulated Medical Waste within 90 days of hire and maintain validation every 3 years as required by assigned job duties and position responsibilities

  • Handle, transport, and package regulated medical waste, municipal waste, confidential paper, and linens in accordance with established procedures and applicable standards

  • Complete required training, education, and competency activities within established timelines and maintain working knowledge of department expectations and safe work practices

  • Identify, report, and help address safety, equipment, or environmental concerns promptly to help maintain a compliant and well-functioning care environment

  • Safeguard sensitive data by following established security policies and procedures, using systems responsibly, and promptly reporting potential security incidents, risks, or policy violations

  • As applicable to your role, support cybersecurity and data protection requirements throughout the supplier lifecycle by coordinating vendor risk assessments, monitoring third-party compliance, and promptly reporting identified supply chain or cybersecurity risks

  • Up to 1 year of experience performing the exact or very similar duties required by the job within the same role or function
