Job Summary

KBR is seeking a Systems Engineer to provide Systems Engineering and Technical Assistance (SETA) support to the Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System (APKWS) program in Huntsville, Alabama. The Systems Engineer will support weapon qualification, safety, configuration management, testing, production, fielding, and sustainment activities across APKWS configurations and applications. This position coordinates technical activities across Army, Navy, Air Force, government engineering organizations, munitions facilities, and defense industry partners to maintain alignment throughout the weapon system lifecycle. The role applies disciplined systems engineering to proximity-fuse development, container qualification, stockpile reliability, Materiel Release, and APKWS-based counter-UAS and ground-defense integration. Success in this position requires effective technical communication, organized execution, close collaboration across stakeholder organizations, and careful attention to engineering documentation and configuration.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Provide systems engineering support for APKWS proximity-fuze development and qualification activities, including U.S. Navy Dual Safe Fuze qualification and engineering, obsolescence, and supply-chain issues affecting proximity-fuze configurations.

  • Coordinate APKWS technical activities across Army, Navy, Air Force, AvMC Science and Technology stakeholders, prime contractors, suppliers, and other government engineering organizations.

  • Support engineering evaluation, test planning, execution, documentation, and formal qualification of the XM650 container and related APKWS configurations.

  • Support Stockpile Reliability Testing activities to evaluate system degradation, environmental exposure, storage performance, reliability, and continued suitability of fielded and depot inventory.

  • Review Engineering Change Proposals and represent engineering requirements within U.S. Navy-led Configuration Control Boards, technical interchange meetings, and engineering milestone reviews.

  • Coordinate weapon and fuze safety documentation, hazard classification, explosive-safety reviews, certification activities, PHST considerations, and engineering inputs required to support Full or Conditional Materiel Release.

  • Provide SETA engineering coordination for TAGM RAPCAP and PM ACE / PM SHIELD initiatives involving APKWS-based launcher and weapon integration, including EAGLS, VAMPIRE, and CWS-A applications.

  • Coordinate Load, Assembly, and Pack activities with Letterkenny Munitions Center, including production schedules, engineering documentation, quality interfaces, technical data, and acceptance activities for Army APKWS builds.

  • Assess technical risks, configuration impacts, test results, qualification status, and integration issues and communicate engineering recommendations to government program leadership and participating organizations.

  • Other duties as assigned in support of mission and business requirements.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or another related ABET-accredited engineering discipline.

  • Minimum five years of professional systems engineering experience.

  • Active U.S. Government Secret security clearance, or eligibility to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.

  • Experience supporting Configuration Control Boards, technical interchange meetings, or engineering milestone reviews such as PDR, CDR, or TRR.

  • Experience with weapon system safety, explosive safety, qualification, testing, or packaging, handling, storage, and transportability requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • SETA or systems engineering experience supporting PEO Missiles and Space, DEVCOM AvMC, TAGM, NAVAIR, or another guided-munitions, missile, or aviation-weapons program.

  • Experience with semi-active laser guidance, 2.75-inch/70mm rocket systems, APKWS, or counter-UAS weapon integration.

  • Experience with fuze systems, energetic materials, MIL-STD-1316, or MIL-STD-810 qualification and environmental testing.

  • Experience with Army Materiel Release, weapon safety review processes, configuration management, Stockpile Reliability Testing, or munitions qualification.

  • Experience coordinating engineering or production activities with a munitions depot, Load, Assembly, and Pack facility, or defense supplier.

Work Environment

  • Location: On-site

  • Travel Requirements: Minimal 0-20%
