ABOUT THE COLLEGE
John Jay College of Criminal Justice is a senior college of the City University of New York (CUNY) and an internationally recognized leader in educating for justice. Led by President Karol V. The College participates in the doctoral programs of the Graduate Center of CUNY and offers bachelor’s and master’s degrees both in traditional criminal justice-related fields of study as well as in a robust portfolio of liberal arts and sciences programs that highlight themes of justice across the arts, sciences, humanities, and social sciences.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Department of Sciences at John Jay College of Criminal Justice invites applications for a full-time Doctoral Lecturer position beginning in Fall 2027. The successful candidate will teach biology courses within our undergraduate majors and minors, from entry-level courses to capstone seminars, with an emphasis on human anatomy and physiology. Candidates must have a strong track record in science education with experience teaching human anatomy and physiology lectures and labs.
Candidates must also be willing to serve as academic advisors to students in the science majors and minors. Three years of successful college-level teaching experience and positive teaching evaluations are required. The hiring committee is especially interested in applicants who contribute to the college's goals through their leadership, community service, and/or lived experiences.
The position of lecturer is tenure-bearing through what is called a “certificate of continuous employment” (CCE) after the fourth annual reappointment. This position of lecturer is a teaching position with a course load of eight classes per year in addition to significant contribution of service to the department. There is no expectation of research or publication.
The Department of Sciences at John Jay College of Criminal Justice is a vibrant community ranked among the oldest and most prestigious in the country in the field of forensic science. Faculties are internationally recognized for their diverse expertise in chemistry, cellular and molecular biology, toxicology, entomology, pathology, and criminalistics. The Department offers a BS in Forensic Science (which includes the three tracks of Criminalistics, Molecular Biology and Toxicology), a BS in Toxicology and a BS in Cellular & Molecular Biology. A Master of Science in Forensic Science is also offered in the three tracks previously listed. The Department also offers an accelerated BS/MS program.
Candidates are expected to bring enthusiasm and a demonstrated commitment to teaching. The successful candidate should be eager and well-prepared to work with students from a wide range of backgrounds and demonstrate a commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment. QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates must have a strong background in both science education and biological sciences, and specifically anatomy and physiology. Candidates with a doctoral degree are strongly preferred. This could be a PhD in a biomedical science with strong teaching credentials, experience, and/or a publication record in the science education literature, or it could be a PhD or EdD in science education coupled with postgraduate education and/or experience working or training in biomedical science. Candidates with postdoctoral training in either science education or a relevant biomedical science will receive increased consideration. Candidates who are ABD may apply, but must have the degree conferred prior to start date.

Three years of undergraduate teaching experience in human anatomy and physiology (lectures and labs) preferred.

Candidate should demonstrate a proven track record of teaching success by integrating emerging digital technologies and pedagogical techniques into biology education, alongside expertise in course development and student learning assessment.
COMPENSATION
$64,419 - $111,455. Salary commensurate with education and credentials.
