Full job description

The core function of the Location and Environment Bureau (LEB) is to balance transportation project delivery, regulatory compliance, and environmental stewardship for Iowa’s transportation interests. Part of this core function includes reviewing transportation projects for potential impacts from hazardous materials. This position will serve an important role in LEB by helping us ensure our transportation projects comply with federal environmental regulations.

The role of this position is to assist the LEB Regulated Materials Program Manager with day-to-day duties, including but not limited to project site research, preliminary project reviews, environmental planning, GIS analysis, data entry, and project-related administrative work.

Duration Options: Position available starting late fall 2026 (10-20 hours per week). There is potential for continuation of the position into summer of 2027. Educational Requirements: Undergraduate or graduate students in planning, natural resources, environmental sciences, emergency management, environmental policy, occupational safety, or related field.
