Full job description
Description We are looking for a Payroll Manager to lead payroll operations in Round Rock, Texas and ensure employees are compensated accurately, consistently, and in full compliance with applicable regulations. This position plays a central role in overseeing payroll administration, strengthening internal controls, and delivering reliable reporting for leadership. The ideal candidate brings strong multi-state payroll expertise, sound judgment, and the ability to collaborate effectively with Human Resources and Finance while guiding a high-performing payroll team.
Responsibilities:

Direct complete payroll cycles for hourly, salaried, and incentive-based employees across multiple states, ensuring each payroll is processed accurately and on schedule.

Evaluate and authorize employee pay updates, including hires, departures, job changes, deductions, and timekeeping adjustments before payroll finalization.

Monitor adherence to federal, state, and local payroll rules, including tax withholding, wage and hour requirements, garnishments, and mandated filings.

Reconcile payroll-related accounts by reviewing benefit deductions, tax payments, payroll balances, and general ledger activity to resolve discrepancies promptly.

Oversee annual payroll close activities such as W-2 preparation, year-end balancing, and documentation needed for audits and compliance reviews.

Lead payroll audit efforts by preparing records, responding to internal and external requests, and maintaining organized support for regulatory examinations.

Manage payroll systems administration and identify opportunities to improve workflows, reporting accuracy, and overall processing efficiency, including support for system upgrades when needed.

Supervise, coach, and develop payroll staff to maintain strong service levels, accountability, and operational consistency.

Work closely with Human Resources, Finance, and business leadership on compensation matters, benefits-related payroll impacts, and recurring or ad hoc reporting needs.

Address complex employee payroll concerns, investigate root causes, and ensure timely resolution of escalated issues. Requirements • At least 5 years of payroll experience, including prior responsibility for leading or supervising payroll operations.

Demonstrated expertise handling full-cycle payroll for large employee populations, including environments with more than 500 employees.

Strong working knowledge of multi-state payroll practices, payroll taxes, wage regulations, garnishments, and compliance reporting.

Experience using payroll platforms such as ADP Workforce Now, Workday, Oracle, or similar enterprise payroll systems.

Advanced Excel and reporting capabilities, with the ability to analyze payroll data and support reconciliations.

High level of accuracy, discretion, and problem-solving ability when managing confidential employee and compensation information.

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, or a related discipline is preferred.

Certified Payroll designation and experience supporting payroll system enhancements or implementations are a plus.
