Full job description

About Stoa Stoa (YC S26) builds market infrastructure for AI compute and hardware. We are headquartered in San Francisco. About the Role You will build and operate the services, data systems and tools behind pricing, trading and settlement. Correctness and auditability are fundamental requirements. You will ship to production in your first weeks. What You'll Do

  • Design, build and operate backend services in Python.
  • Own data pipelines and the validation that keeps records consistent across systems.
  • Deliver systems through schema design, implementation, testing, deployment and monitoring.
  • Build internal tools, including applications that use language model APIs.
  • Review code and serve in the on-call rotation for the systems you own.

What We're Looking For

  • Strong engineering fundamentals. You reason about data, concurrency and failure modes before implementation.
  • Exacting standards for correctness, especially in systems that handle money and records.
  • Practical design judgment. You choose the simplest sound design and know when to revisit it.
  • Clear technical writing. Your design notes and pull requests explain your reasoning.
  • Ownership. You take systems from idea to production independently.

Requirements

  • 1+ years of professional software engineering experience.
  • Production experience in Python and SQL, with evidence of systems delivered to real users.
  • Working knowledge of Git and code review.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with payments, marketplaces, trading systems or financial data.
  • TypeScript and a modern web framework.
  • Experience with language model APIs or agent frameworks.

Location: San Francisco. Remote candidates in US time zones are considered.
