Description

The Kentucky School for the Deaf (KSD), located in Danville, Kentucky, is a statewide educational center dedicated to serving Deaf and Hard of Hearing students from across the Commonwealth. KSD provides a bilingual environment in which students learn and grow in both American Sign Language (ASL) and English. Our programs are designed to empower students with the linguistic, academic, social, and transition skills they need to become confident, capable, and successful lifelong learners.

KSD is organizationally part of the Kentucky Department of Education (KDE), a service agency within the Commonwealth of Kentucky under the Education and Labor Cabinet. KDE supports KSD through guidance, resources, and oversight as part of its broader mission to ensure success for every student in Kentucky’s P-12 public education system.

As one of only two state-operated special schools under KDE, KSD has a long and proud history of excellence in Deaf education and cultural preservation. We value partnerships with families, local school districts, and community stakeholders to ensure every student receives the individualized support they need.

KSD Mission: To equip Deaf and Hard of Hearing students with linguistic, academic, social, and transition skills to reach their full potential.

KDE Mission: To partner with districts, schools, families, students, business, industry, and communities to provide leadership and support to ensure success for each and every student.

KSD CORE VALUES:

  • Students are our top priority.

  • We create safe, equitable environments that foster student development.

  • We respect and promote diversity.

  • We support bilingual development in ASL and English.

  • We uphold and model a strong work ethic.

  • We honor KSD’s history and Deaf culture.

  • We build collaborative partnerships with families and stakeholders.

  • We nurture student leadership and lifelong learning.

KSD is seeking a Houseparent I who is dedicated, knowledgeable, and passionate about making a meaningful difference in the lives of Deaf and Hard of Hearing students. This position offers a unique and rewarding opportunity to work in a dynamic, culturally rich, and student-focused environment.

Primary Role: Perform duties providing for the care, supervision and instruction of a unit of residential students.

As part of the Kentucky Department of Education, employees of KSD receive the full benefits and support of state government employment, including professional development, health and retirement benefits, and opportunities for advancement.

If you’re ready to join a team committed to empowering the next generation of leaders, learners, and advocates in the Deaf community—this is the job for you.

We look forward to receiving your application!
