Duties Description This Research Scientist 2 position is part of the Empirical Analysis unit within the Division of Program Planning, Research and Evaluation. The individual in this position will evaluate and report on the impact of legislation, policy, and agency initiatives and operations. Tasks will include routine reporting and responding to ad hoc data requests. This will include analyzing DOCCS data with advanced statistical techniques using statistical software programs such as Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) and Stata. The analysis will culminate in the presentation of tabular and graphical data in Excel, dashboard data in Tableau and associated written reports. Responsibilities will include collaborating on the planning and design of research projects and being well-versed in appropriate research methodologies and statistical techniques. Research topics will include unusual incidents, incarcerated individual disciplinary incidents, and other relevant topics.Preferred qualifications include professional experience designing and conducting criminal justice research, proficiency using SPSS or Stata for advanced data analysis, and proficiency with Tableau or other visualization software to create data visualizations.
Minimum Qualifications Eligible for transfer, reassignment or meet the following qualifications: Minimum Qualifications for Non-Competitive Appointment: bachelor’s degree and three years of professional research experience** in criminal justice.**Substitutions: master's degree may substitute for one year of specialized experience; J.D. may substitute for two years of specialized experience; Ph.D. may substitute for three years of specialized experience.
