Job Purpose: Located on our New River Campus in Bluffton, under the general supervision of the Facilities Manager, the Trades Specialist performs skilled maintenance, repairs, groundskeeping, and custodial duties to maintain safe, clean, and functional buildings, grounds, and equipment across multiple college campuses. The position provides team leadership for custodial staff, coordinates supplies, and supports event setups and breakdowns while exercising independent judgment in daily operations. Job Duties:
- Performs skilled duties of moderate difficulty in the maintenance of buildings. grounds, and equipment to include routine cleaning and grounds maintenance, Team lead duties for custodial staff, primarily at but not limited to the New River and the Culinary Institute of the South campus locations.
- Performs routine preventative maintenance and repair tasks on a regular schedule to include but not limited to groundskeeping equipment, electrical fixtures, such as ceiling fans, changing filters, belts, repairing electrical switches, receptacles, light motors, general construction, repairing and painting walls, doors, windows, and drywall installation; makes minor repairs to roofs, plumbing. clearing drains, sinks, sewer lines, toilets. Assist with setups and breakdown for college related special events.
- Performs various domestic cleaning duties to include but not limited to, daily trash removal stripping and finishing of floors: cleaning and stocking of restrooms, extracting/cleaning of carpets. polishing floors using high-speed buffers. Inventory control of cleaning supplies ensuring the facilities are stocked. Act as a team lead for custodial staff.
- Under the general supervision incumbent will be working independently, exercising a high level of discretion in decision-making. In critical situations must contact a supervisor and document situations that may have a significant fiscal impact on the college.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Formal training or trades experience that is directly related to the area of employment. Preferred: A high school diploma and two (2) years directly related work experience; or 10th grade education and four (4) years directly related work experience. Employee will be expected to respond to the needs of all campus sites with the possibility of 24/7 calls. Duties may entail heavy manual labor, climbing ladders, working from elevated level, and exposure to non-toxic fumes; duties frequently require lifting up to 70 lbs, stooping, bending, and working awkward positions. Tasks involve working with power equipment w/moving parts and possible exposure to hazardous waste materials and caustic substances.
