This position is based in Fridley, Minnesota and follows an onsite work model, with flexibility to work remotely on Fridays. No travel is required for this role.

As a Senior Software Development Engineer in Test, you will lead software verification and quality engineering activities for web, mobile, and cloud-connected applications. You will partner with cross-functional teams to define test strategies, build scalable automation solutions, strengthen product quality, and support compliant software development throughout the product lifecycle.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, and execution of automated software verification solutions across web, mobile, API, and backend systems.

  • Define test strategies, verification plans, release criteria, and risk-based testing approaches aligned with product and regulatory requirements.

  • Develop and maintain reusable test frameworks, automation assets, and test infrastructure to improve quality and efficiency.

  • Translate business, system, and software requirements into traceable test designs, test cases, and objective verification evidence.

  • Validate end-to-end application behavior, including user interfaces, APIs, databases, microservices, and integrated workflows.

  • Integrate automated testing into Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines and establish quality gates for software releases.

  • Investigate complex defects, perform root cause analysis, and drive corrective actions across software and test environments.

  • Mentor engineers and contribute to continuous improvement of testing practices, tools, standards, and processes.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree with 4+ years of software development, software test engineering, or quality engineering experience OR Master's degree with 2+ years of software development, software test engineering, or quality engineering experience OR Ph.D. with 0+ years of experience required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience developing and executing automated software tests for production applications.

  • Experience creating software verification artifacts, including test plans, test cases, test protocols, and test reports.

  • Experience testing web applications, mobile applications, APIs, or distributed systems.

  • Experience using source control, defect tracking, and CI/CD toolsExperience developing automated test solutions using Java, JavaScript, or Kotlin.

  • Experience with automation frameworks and tools such as Selenium, Appium, Playwright, Cypress, REST Assured, JUnit, or TestNG.

  • Experience validating microservices, REST APIs, asynchronous workflows, event-driven architectures, and relational databases.

  • Experience with cloud platforms, containerized environments, and CI/CD platforms such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or Azure DevOps.

  • Experience in regulated software development environments, including risk-based testing, requirements traceability, and audit-ready documentation.

For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$124,800.00 - $187,200.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance, Health Savings Account, Healthcare Flexible Spending Account, Life insurance, Long-term disability leave, Dependent daycare spending account, Tuition assistance/reimbursement, and Simple Steps (global well-being program).
